Under direct supervision of Director of Student Success and in collaboration with academic program and preparation partnership leadership, provide academic advising and support for assigned SOE programs and candidates.

Position Specific Accountabilities

Provide academic advising for candidates on routine and complex issues. Maintain ongoing communication with program candidates about SOE and university policies, processes and requirements regarding matriculation, standardized tests and official document needs, course registration, program changes and logistics, finances, financial aid, student accounts, credential filing, degree completion, and issues as appropriate to candidate program completion. Respond to candidate concerns and problem-solve issues as they arise. 40%Serve as certified officer for verification of official documentation required for credential and degree completion. Collect, review, scan, and upload official candidate file documentation received post-admission for program enrollment and completion. Maintain electronic candidate file on university system. Evaluate coursework for credential requirements of incoming students such as the requirements for Basic Skills, Subject Matter and US Constitution. Disseminate information and facilitate Character and Identification Clearance (fingerprint) process when applicable for intern credential candidates. Collaborate with the SOE Credential office to support candidates' credentialing needs. 20%Serve as a resource to program candidates in providing referrals and follow-up to available student support services on campus including, but not limited to: Disability Support Services, Student Psychological Services, Academic Resource Center, and SOE Student Success Center. Submit Community of Care referrals as needed based on candidate communication of issues.10%Provide updates and feedback to program leadership on course sequence, schedule offerings, Bulletin language, candidate issues and trends, and program needs. Work in collaboration with program leadership towards program development and success. Provide program leadership advisement on unique and complex candidate issues. Continually analyze, edit, and maintain program communication/documentation (including university bulletin, web based and digital communication/ documentation) ensuring accuracy and providing for continued program improvement and efficiency. 10%In collaboration with Credential Office, stay current on California Commission for Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and program-specific certification policies, legislation, trends, and credential regulations for issuance of California credentials, certificates, permits, and authorizations. Maintain a working knowledge of educational practices in California PK-12 school systems related to certificated employment. Evaluate and determine credential eligibility, and notify Credential Office of files needing review. Assist with credential file review and recommendation as needed. 10%Assist in development of standardized advising practices, documentation, and protocols for the School of Education, and related work. Provide leadership support for SOE and Registrar work related to advising. 10%Effectively and efficiently utilize required LMU web based systems to maintain meaningful electronic data and records related to program, degree, and credential program completers and/or credential holders, providing accurate assessment data for the University and School of Education administrators and faculty for use in complex decision making. Be open to and intentional in the use of evolving technology for advising practices.Assist in the preparation of the annual Joint Data Collection report for accrediting agencies.Participate and assist in SOE Orientation activities, program retention efforts/initiatives, and SOE accreditation and committee activities.Represent LMU within the K-12 educational community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.Perform other duties as assigned.Loyola Marymount University Expectations

Requisite Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. Typically a Master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling or related field. Equivalent experience accepted. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep current with regulation/policy changes.Minimum of two to three years of experience in progressively responsible capacities, preferably in academic environments evaluating academic qualifications of applicants. Knowledge or experience in California credentialing and/or K-12 employment requirements highly desirable.Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multiple and highly diverse populations and constituencies. Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting priorities in workload to ensure both accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks. Ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities. The ability to work well with others as a team is essential.Exemplary communication skills (written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating data and technical information.Demonstrated computer competency and knowledge of MS Office applications and openness to continually learn and adapt to new and evolving computer systems to ensure accuracy of data. Incumbent is expected to effectively utilize wide variety of appropriate software applications and web based data tracking systems to provide meaningful, accurate, and timely information to program candidates.

Salary range$66,560.00 - $75,200.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
