Position Description
Tutor students in the specific area of specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development in order to set realistic expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist students' educational needs both individually and in small groupsCollaborate with classroom teachers regarding students' needs and requirements including IEP goalsAssess the students using district assessmentsMaintain accurate, complete and correct records as requiredMonitor students' progress using district assessmentsUtilize computer to establish and maintain student dataFacilitate small group math and/or reading instruction determined by the Principal and/or teacher in both pull-out and push-in modelsCommunicate in a positive manner with parents on the progress of studentsCollaborate with colleagues, students, and parentsEstablish and maintain positive relationships with parents through the effective use of progress reports, notes, and/or conferences.Tutor students in the locations and at the times designatedCompile and maintain learning portfolios and reports of studentsAssess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as requiredDemonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learnersTeach new concepts and facilitate different activities, enabling students to learn in different waysAttend meetings and in-services per the negotiated agreement
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Makes contact with the public with tact and diplomacyMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., home and discipline situations, medical background and family historyInteract in a positive manner with staff, students, and parentsPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversationMay be required or asked to assist with diapering and/or toileting students
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
Experience working with young childrenKnowledge of the academic areaAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingPractical, active listening skillsAbility to work effectively with othersOrganizational and problem-solving skillsBasic knowledge of all other subject matterAbility to work effectively with othersBasic computer skillsExcellent reading comprehensionExcellent math comprehensionSmall group instruction
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in math, reading, elementary education or related field; Master's preferredExperience working in schools supporting students experiencing reading and/or learning difficulties preferredTwo or more years working as an Interventionist, Teacher, or Tutor with childrenBilingual in Spanish, preferred
