Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The

Counselor

will provide ongoing and trauma-informed comprehensive counseling services to adult survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, and/or other forms of gender violence. Services will be geared toward non-shelter clients living in the community, including a large percentage of Spanish-speaking clients. Assist clients in moving toward managing their trauma, and understanding the impact of domestic violence on their lives and that of their children; help them to reach economic stability through case management, advocacy, and referral if necessary, to organizations providing such services. Opportunity to work in supportive, team-oriented environments in lower Manhattan.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts evidence-based assessments and psychosocial interviews for adult survivors of domestic violence, trafficking, and other forms of gender-based violence.Provides comprehensive trauma-informed individual/group counseling services with a trauma and strengths-based perspective to help clients process, cope, and heal from experiences of gender-based violence.Provides safety planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, case management, and referrals to other related services as needed.Provides affidavits and testimony for immigration and other legal purposes.Conducts trauma-related and domestic violence outreach and training to community organizations and institutionsMaintains accurate case records and utilizes internal database systems to track direct services to clients and outreach events.Performs other duties as requested by the supervisor.Organizational Relationships

Maintains a network of contacts with other Social Service Agencies.Collaborates with and refers to external counseling programs when appropriate.Interacts and maintains open communication with clinical and other staff from the Family Justice Centers (FJC).Works collaboratively with agency staff across all sites.Requirements

LMSW, LCSW, LMHC or Limited Permit required.Ability to work full-time hybrid.Experience providing counseling and other services to domestic violence survivors.Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including working collaboratively with professionals across disciplines, (e.g. domestic violence advocates, housing specialists, attorneys, police officers, government officials, workforce development professionals, and other community-based agency staff).Experience and familiarity with relevant social services focusing on women's issues are strongly desired.Experience providing counseling and other services to domestic violence survivors.Experience and familiarity with relevant social services focusing on women's issues are strongly desired.Fluency in a community language other than English preferredBudgeted Salary: $67,584 - $74,655 per year; based on experience pursuant

wage scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement
