WORK YEAR REQUIREMENTS

:

185-day School Year, based on the Bristol/Warren school calendar.

DESCRIPTION: West Bay Collaborative is expanding into the East Bay Region, and is looking for qualified candidates to support a small group of students with social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs. The program consists of an online curriculum with individual instruction and supports. The candidate will be working with a Special Education Teacher, and report to the Chief Behavior Specialist.

Responsibilities

:

Monitor/Assist with point sheet distribution, data collection, level system, reward systemCollect data as needed and requested by Program Director or Chief or Lead Behavior SpecialistCommunicate observations and student outcomes to staff and administrationWork directly with students at-risk to help them develop appropriate coping strategies and conflict resolution skillsSupport students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goalsCheck-ins with students for their daily behavior sheetsAttend bi-monthly trainings with Chief Behavior SpecialistTransport youth to and from programs/field trips as directedProvide support to staff and students in the event of a safety-related incident, including, when necessary, the use of appropriate physical intervention.Demonstrate the ability to remain calm during a crisis situation as evidenced by the ability to make quick, rational decisions and prioritize immediate care needs to maintain a therapeutic environment and ensure safety.Participate in the physical management of students which can include but is not limited to, awareness and demonstration of safe body positioning at all times, awareness and coordination to block and deflect possible aggression, and the ability to physically hold struggling individuals, using approved methods only, to maintain safety for extended periods of time.Complete professional development in related areas as assigned by Program Administrator or Director of Special EducationOther duties as assigned by the Program Administrator and Director of Special EducationRequirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Training as a Teaching Assistant from a Rhode Island Department of Education approved program, or completion of an Associate's degree, B.A. or B.S. preferred in a related field (Sociology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, etc.)Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits social/emotional and mental health needs. Data collection, observations, as needed per Program AdministratorCertified in First Aid/CPR preferredKnowledge and understanding of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environmentPossess a current Chauffeur's license, or ability to obtain oneTraining and competency in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or ability to attend training upon hireAbility to be flexible with program needs/demands (ie. training, location of work, etc.)Serve as a positive role model for youth, providing support both in and outside of the classroom settingClear record on National Criminal Background CheckSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Executive Director may find appropriate and acceptable
