Purpose/Summary

This is a grant funded position through December 2026 with possibility to transition into a full time role.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Community College of Denver is seeking a Director/Department Chair to begin facilitating program development and support for Colorado's statewide Behavioral Healthcare Workforce initiative (SB22-181). The purpose of the Behavioral Health Director/Chair is to lead, supervise, and collaborate with the faculty and adjunct instructors in the department as well as across departments to support the college vision, mission, and strategic plan. In this full-time role, the Chair/Director will utilize excellent communication, organization, and detail-oriented skills to effectively manage the programmatic requirements, timelines, and industry partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

The Director/Chair shares a commitment to and exemplifies principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all work done within the department and as part of the college community. The Director/Chair, as a faculty member, teaches courses in their field of expertise and maintains a commitment to high-quality instruction and high-quality student supports. This position reports to the Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences & Public Safety and Legal Services. The successful candidate will be equity focused and have a strong demonstrated knowledge of student success, teaching learning, administration strategies, theories, and best practices.

Leadership, Program Management, and SupportLead course and program development as well as statewide curriculum changes, working with the Curriculum Committee for a timely and accurate reflection in the college catalog.Collaborate closely with the Dean, faculty, staff, and instructors in the design and implementation of departmental plans that support the college mission, vison, strategic plan, and equity and inclusion goals.Exemplify and sustain a positive climate of collaboration and inclusiveness by cultivating partnerships with external and internal stakeholders.Foster a culture of academic excellence and culturally relevant pedagogy while also leading efforts oriented to closing the gap for historically underserved and excluded students.Mentor faculty and instructors for professional growth by offering professional learning opportunities and facilitating the attendance of those provided by the college and professional organizations.Conduct regular program reviews according to college guidelines and utilize findings and data to improve programs and operations and increase student achievement.Coordinate departmental promotion with the college Strategic Communications office, Center for Recruitment and Orientation, and Advising.Facilitate resources for extracurricular events sponsored by the department and attend them.Develop and submit accurate course schedules based on enrollment trends and program curricula.Monitor course enrollment and open or close courses based on registration reports.Develop and oversee operating budgets.Assess program work processes and recommend improvements in keeping with related state policies that impact the program, Behavioral Health Administration practices, and basic state licensure requirements for LAC's, LCISW's, LMHC, and other licensed professionals.Approve and oversee concurrent enrollment instructors and courses.Teaching

Maintain expertise in the subject area and effectively teach 12 credits per academic year in the assigned courses; develop lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to successful attainment of course competencies and outcomes.Be knowledgeable about pedagogy/andragogy, methods, retention, inclusion, and assessment of outcomes; be willing to participate in coaching/mentoring.Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, multi-modal, challenging, equity-minded, student-centered, and engaging instruction.Provide proactive and holistic support for students; this includes providing outreach, differential instruction with high expectations, and high support for students of varied preparedness.Assessment of Student Academic Achievement

Foster a positive culture of assessment of student learning and embrace change in a dynamic setting.Provide or coordinate professional learning activities related to assessment of student learning.Oversee development, implementation, and completion of all assessment plans according to college guidelines.Mentor faculty and instructors in design and implementation of teaching and learning strategies aimed at improving student learning based on assessment findings and utilization of disaggregated data.Submit assessment reports including plans for modifying instructional practices.Incorporate student centered practices such as including student feedback, student experiences, and/or student learning outcomes in decision-making.Additional Functions

2 years full-time within the last 5 years in a behavioral/mental health field2 years teaching experience or experience in community outreach, teaching, or trainingUse of computer technology including LMS familiarity, Microsoft Office, and educational technologyKnowledge/Skills/Abilities: (Required/Minimum)

PERA is the 21st largest public pension plan in the United States. PERA is a substitute for Social Security; CCD employees do not contribute to Social Security. PERA eligible employees are required to contribute a fixed percentage of their salary to the pension. Student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA.
