Clinical social workers provide SUD education, assessment and diagnosis, individual and group therapy, and treatment planning for patients with primary substance use disorder (SUD) and/or patients dually diagnosed with SUD and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. The clinical social worker provides clinical services to patients and families which address psychosocial, environmental, age specific and cultural issues in order to maximize emotional, social and physical wellbeing and the effective use of health care and community resources. Clinical social workers engage in treatment that includes medications to treat SUD, utilize and appreciate motivational interviewing, and participate in team meetings where team-based learning and treatment is highly valued.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the following for patients admitted to the outpatient addiction recovery program:

Completes comprehensive initial psychosocial assessmentFormulates initial and ongoing treatment plansOffers counseling, psychotherapy and case management services to patients and their caregiversProvides individual, group and family psychotherapy at a clinically appropriate frequencyDevelops clinical discharge plan for continuing care as necessaryProvides SUD education and group treatment for patientsAssesses and refers patients to the appropriate level of care as needed, including PHP/inpatient programsSubmits mandated assessments when abuse is suspected (child, disabled adult, elder) and safety assessment when domestic violence is reported. Files reports as indicated.Completion of all required daily progress notes, discharge planning, group planning, treatment consents, billing and other documentation as necessaryProvides vacation coverage to other Psychiatry/Addictions areas as necessary for continuity of patient careAttends staff and treatment team meetingsAssists in research and quality improvement projects as requestedQualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required.Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) required.Experience in the field of Psychiatric, substance use and/or community mental health services preferred.Strong assessment and treatment skills.Good organizational skills and ability to set priorities.Demonstrated ability to communicate effective verbally and in writing.Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective team collaboration.Demonstrated ability to understand the role of social worker in a complex, fast-paced environment.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of specific medical/psychiatric illnesses, procedures and treatments.Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation skills necessary to work within a team.Ability to provide rapid clinical psychosocial assessments and brief, short- or long-term treatment/management with individuals, families, and/or groups.Advanced crisis intervention/treatment/management skills.Strong organizational skills.Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to consult/teach.Knowledge of community agencies/resources. Ability to advocate/negotiate systems for/with patients.Tolerance for ambiguity; analytical skills and computer literacy.A sense of humor.
