What You'll DoThe YWCA of Seattle King Snohomish Gender-Based Violence Specialized Services provides culturally relevant services that are designed to meet the needs of survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault and commercial sexual exploitation. The Gender Based Violence Legal Navigator will provide legal advocacy to adult survivors, which could include support with protection orders, family law, CPS, housing navigation, safety planning, life skills, and employment. This position will use a model of best practice trauma-informed advocacy with a strength-based approach.This position has a social justice component that will allow for critical thinking around how the external systems influence the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Expectations of your role:

Engage in community networking activities to increase access to services for survivors, specifically African American and survivors of color.Provide culturally relevant advocacy with a trauma-informed approach for gender-based violence survivors fleeing imminent danger.Support clients in navigating the civil and legal systems, including assistance with filing protection orders, breaking leases, relocations, CPS, and law enforcement.Complete intakes with new survivors, including screening for eligibility and determining legal needs.Maintain records (data entry) and statistical information on clients served.Compile data and complete monthly reports and quarterly narratives.Develop ongoing relationships with community partners and other service providers.Conduct presentations and trainings to assist the community and stakeholders, including public speaking.Must have's to be successful:

Lived experience

or knowledge of

working with survivors

that have experienced Gender-Based Violence, such as Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Intimate Partner Violence, and Human Trafficking (CSE).One (1) year of direct social service

experience or translatable lived experience skills considered in lieu of degree.Strong orientation and familiarity toward legal advocacy, with the ability to navigate multiple systems (i.e., municipal and superior courts, legal systems, law enforcement, etc.).Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team.Vehicle with valid WA Driver's License; candidate must be able to travel between multiple work sites within a day.Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty, particularly in fostering social justice advocacy for communities furthest from opportunities (specifically African American and other women of color).Demonstrated knowledge and skills of basic computer competencies such as emailing, cell phone text messaging, calendaring, entry-level data entry, and familiarity with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.Hours, Rate, and Benefits

Employees are encouraged to seek external support and maintain self-care when working indirectly or directly with clients.Continuously sits for extended periods while performing desktop activities.Continuously stands and walks in performing duties.Continuously uses hands and wrists, fingering, handling, grasping, and reaching in using telephones, computers, kitchen equipment, donations, and supplies.Frequently reaches and grasps in using telephones, computers, fax machines, and other office equipment and supplies.Frequently stands, walks, sits, and climbs in performing duties in the office and in traveling to off-site meetings.Occasionally lifts and carries up to 5lbs. of paperwork, files, and training materials.Occasionally kneels, bends, pushes, and pulls in obtaining files in drawers.This position is a mobile advocacy position that travels to multiple worksites within a day.
