Job Summary: We are seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Commercial Supply Chain to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all aspects of commercial supply chain planning, ensuring uninterrupted product supply, and managing relationships with key external manufacturing partners. This role requires expertise in Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP), risk mitigation, and ERP systems. The Director will also drive new product launches, including serialization, foster talent development, and enhance organizational processes and capabilities.

Essential Functions and Duties

Commercial Supply Chain Leadership:

Lead the global commercial supply chain to ensure consistent and reliable product supply across all Akebia commercial products and markets.

Oversee supply chain risk management, demand and supply forecasting, scenario analysis, budgeting, supplier relationship management, and inventory reconciliation.

Planning and Execution:

Develop and manage end-to-end supply plans to ensure seamless material supply, encompassing raw material procurement, drug substance manufacturing, bulk drug product manufacturing, and finished goods packaging.

Ensure timely achievement of key project milestones, negotiating and communicating timelines with internal and external stakeholders.

Oversee all aspects of product launch readiness, including serialization, ensuring successful market entry.

Supplier Relationship Management:

Manage and oversee relationships with external manufacturing partners (CMOs) as well as day to day activities.

Ensure manufacturing readiness, partner with suppliers to address challenges, monitor performance, and track key metrics to maintain high standards of supply chain operations.

Data Analytics and Decision-Making:

Implement robust data analytics to inform decision-making, including schedule adherence, product-specific dashboards, financial metrics, and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) analysis.

Leverage data-driven insights to optimize supply chain performance and support strategic initiatives.

Regulatory and Quality Compliance:

Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards by working with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Change Controls, Deviations, and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).

Actively participate in ERP systems and manage supply chain transactions to maintain operational integrity.

Product Launches and Market Expansion:

Lead and coordinate efforts to successfully launch new products and expand into new markets, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

Team Development and Process Improvement:

Develop and mentor the Commercial Supply Chain Team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.

Drive process enhancements and strengthen organizational capabilities to support long-term strategic goals.

Executive Reporting and Communication:

Consolidate and analyze diverse data sources to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior leadership, delivering clear and actionable insights.

Communicate complex supply chain metrics and strategies to executive management, facilitating informed decision-making.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field;

Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management within the biopharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree

Proven track record of leading SIOP processes and managing complex supply chain operations.

Deep understanding of ERP systems and their application in supply chain management.

Significant experience in planning or external supplier management preferred.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards within the biopharmaceutical industry.

Proven capability in executive reporting and effective communication with senior leadership.

Compensation: Targeted Base: 193,458 - 238,977*

*Base Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Base pay is only one component of the company’s total rewards package; all regular employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or the incentive compensation program (if applicable), as well as equity. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, etc.
