The Role:

We are looking for a graduating senior to be part of our Engineering Development Program as an Associate Process Engineer. This role is a learning and expertise development opportunity to further your engineering capabilities. You will be working, as a team member or as a project leader, on projects aiming to support on-site process improvement within individual manufacturing units. As part of the project, you will be performing or supporting process systems or process unit understanding, implementing change, and analyzing change impact, including financials against business targets. The complete project work may include lab and pilot scale and will demand process unit design, application of continuous improvement and lean methodologies, mass balance analysis, system documentation, drawing preparation, project planning, data analysis, impact analysis, training, change oversight and change management.

This position is in Keokuk, IA, the location of our main manufacturing site in the Americas, which counts on a significant investment plan focusing on reliability and expansion.

The Associate Process Engineer, within the Engineering Development Program, reports, and will be mentored, by a Senior Team member, interacts with multifunctional teams and will be coached and supported by senior leaders in the Engineering and Plant management teams.

What You'll Do:

As a project team member, perform engineering duties, including but not limited to:

Creating/maintaining/updating P&IDs and process flow diagrams.

Preparing mass/energy balances.

Application of lean/continuous improvement methodologies for project management.

Providing process design calculations to support improvement projects along with writing scope documents and creating results project presentation.

Design engineering specifications for equipment, valves, pumps, instrumentation, and controls.

Participating in Process Hazard Analysis, Dust Hazard Analysis, Process Deviations, MOC reviews, and Process Control/Interlock changes.

Oversight of training, change management and system operation.

What You'll Learn:

How process improvement projects are carried out, from inception to successful completion.

The basics of plant operations, the process engineering role and project management including design, development, and review.

The positive impact of lean/continuous improvement methodologies in process improvement projects.

How to prepare process engineering drawings and calculations, size new production equipment, develop, write equipment specifications, prepare valve and instrumentation data sheets, size process piping, and conduct pump hydraulic calculations.

The dynamic of working with the internal teams, develop training materials and support the training to production employees on new unit operations.

How local permitting, EPA regulations, and OHSA requirements influence process improvement projects and their impact on project schedule and costs.

What You'll Need:

4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, along with 0-2 years of industrial work experience (This is an entry-level position).

Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software, engineering spreadsheets and engineering calculations.

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with varying functional leaders both internally and externally.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. Work environment includes ~50% indoors; 50% outdoors with exposure to:

Industrial manufacturing that contains:

Chemical, biological, and other hazards.

High elevations with appropriate safety measures in place.

Short durations of extreme heat/cold and humidity during peak and low times of the year and in the manufacturing facilities.

Atmosphere (poor lighting, ventilation).

Moving equipment.

Dust, fumes and gases.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and standard hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 PM although time may vary depending on projects or event needs.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected within US and to Canada.
