POSITION SUMMARY

Oversee the TRIO Talent Search program at Marion Technical College (the “College”). Implement, administer, and maintain all aspects outlined in the TRIO TS grant agreement. Advance the mission of the College to provide the region’s most accessible, supportive, and personal pathway to career success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise staff and operations by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth opportunities.

Conduct annual employee evaluations and recommend personnel actions. Approve leaves and authorize overtime as appropriate. Participate in the employee selection process. Administer disciplinary actions in collaboration with Human Resources.

Implement, explain, interpret, and enforce policy.

Recruit and enroll the required amount of qualified student participants to carry out the legislative and regulatory requirements of the grant.

Establish a viable retention program for participants, including the development and nurturing of workable linkages among participants/project, participating schools, resource agencies, families of the clientele, vendors, and college administrators/personnel.

Provide timely and relevant information for decision-making and carry out resulting directives. Promote collaboration among stakeholders, disseminate information, answer questions, facilitate meetings, and solicit financial and material support for the grant.

Provide direct services to participants through counseling and advisement, research and coordinate culturally enriching experiences for participants.

Maintain the highest standards of ethical behavior and serve as an exemplary model of professional leadership.

Maintain records and other confidential information in proper format about all program participants. Assist with compiling and reporting information to meet grant regulations and college requirements and to improve program outcomes.

Coordinate and oversee the documentation of services provided to TRIO TS program participants.

Assist with the production of publicity pieces, other outreach methods, and maintenance of program website information.

Work assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance and work overtime, as required, to meet workload demands.

Develop recordkeeping procedures and manage appropriate department records in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.

Assist in the development of workshops, career development presentations, and cultural programming for program participants.

Prepare and provide post-activity evaluation data, as appropriate to the objectives of the position. Prepare scheduled and special reports as required.

Perform other related duties as required.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position is 100% grant-funded and wholly contingent upon the continuation of external funding. This position may be eliminated or reduced with or without notice if funding should cease or be reduced.

QUALIFICATIONS

An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum preferred qualifications for this position are: Master’s degree in education, College Student Personnel, Psychology, or closely related field with at least 2-year progressively responsible experience in advising, counseling, and working with disadvantaged students. Prior experience with TRIO is strongly preferred. Knowledge of management principles and practices, adolescent development, learning styles, career interest inventories, college admissions requirements, secondary education curricula, student services issues, college student development and advising techniques, and computer software packages required. Ability to apply management principles to practical work situations, work with a diverse population, including parents, students, young adults, college staff, and representatives from community agencies and organizations. Coordinate projects, manage crisis situations, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain confidential and sensitive information. Skill in problem-solving, verbal and written communications, active listening, collaborating with other departments, and operating a computer and other general office equipment. Skill in customer service and experience in coordinating special events. Smart phone required to allow access to MFA-protected services.

and will perform a wide range of professional and administrative support functions for the college, primarily in an office setting. Further information may be obtained from the Office of Human Resources.
