Our afterschool Lynn Teen Center (located at 17 Columbia St, Swampscott) is looking for a Lead Facilitator to run our Sisters for Success group once a week in-person. This is a short-term/temp hire from Sept.-Jun. (with the possibility of re-hiring) for 3.5 hours of work a week.

Program Description

:

Sisters for Success (SFS) is a peer empowerment group that unites female-identifying high school students to be inspired and motivated by each other. At its core, SFS aims to equip group members to be ready for post-high school experiences (whether that is post-secondary education, a trade, or a career) through enhancing their skill sets such as emotional awareness, exploring education and career opportunities, and strengthening their self-confidence while advocating for themselves and/or others. Camaraderie and trust will be cultivated throughout weekly group meetings to reflect the Sisterhood and supportive nature of the group and its purpose.

Facilitator Description:

The SFS Lead Facilitator will be responsible, along with the other facilitator(s), for developing and facilitating a school year-long curriculum of topics and experiences for students relevant to the focuses of the group; including a cohesive and comprehensive mentoring program. Throughout the year, the SFS lead facilitator will be available to assist the other SFS facilitator(s) as needed and will serve as a mentor for the students. This position will report to the Lynn Teen Center Coordinator at LEAP for Education.

Facilitator Responsibilities:

Commit to at least one academic year (Sept.-Jun.) of active participation in SFS by facilitating weekly group meetings (for 1 hr. a week, on a day (Monday-Thursday) and time (between 4-7pm) that works best for you).

Commit to coming into the space 1 hour a week aside from program time to build rapport with students involved.

Develop unit plans with other facilitator(s) for the year, which include: weekly meeting topics & lessons that meaningfully engage students and guests, fun enrichment events/field trips, & outside speakers as applicable.

Communicate with the Teen Center Coordinator regularly with updates on cohort progress, lesson plans, upcoming events, student enrollment, and any problems or concerns.

Work to ensure all students are learning, have a voice in decisions being made, and are participating in a safe, supportive learning environment.

Serve as a positive role model by modeling responsible behaviors, i.e. promptness, appropriate communication, vulnerability.

Report weekly group attendance at the end of each meeting to the Teen Center Coordinator.

Assess what hands-on experiences and field trips should be planned to add depth to meeting topics and communicate them with the Teen Center Coordinator well in advance for final approval (permission slip distribution, etc.).

Plan and facilitate meetings twice a month (at a minimum) with the other SFS facilitator(s) and/or volunteer(s); during these meetings, the team will:

(1) plan discussion topics, guest speakers, and enrichment activities for 2-4 weeks in advance,

(2) discuss goals and development of SFS,

(3) review cohort growth and retention strategies (with the Teen Center Coordinator).

Work towards meeting success metrics.

Facilitator Requirements:

Prior experience facilitating discussions around emotional awareness, self-confidence, female empowerment, etc. (ideally with youth).

Complete a CORI and SORI background check.

Be willing to commit to the mission and growth of the SFS group.

Female-identifying BIPOC member of the local community strongly encouraged to apply, given the demographics of the student group.

Ability to relate to the background of the program participants.

Last Day of Hire:

6/30/25 (to allow for yearly reflection, wrap-up & any follow-up work as needed, which can be done remotely).

Compensation:

$30 an hour ($45 an hour for certified teachers).

HOURS

3.5 hours a week are expected as follows:

1 hr of in-person programming.

1 hr of in-person relationship building.

1 hr of curriculum planning.

.5 hr check in with TC coordinator.

Schedule:

After school.

No weekends.
