Chief Nursing Officer Opportunity - Behavioral HealthVirginia Beach Psychiatric Center (VBPC)

is a 100-bed freestanding hospital offering acute psychiatric and substance abuse services for adults 18 years and older, with out-patient programming for mental health and substance use treatment. VBPC is the largest bed capacity facility of its kind in the Hampton Roads region, and has served its critical role in the community for over 30 years. The hospital is accessible 24 hours a day for inquiries, referrals, assessments, admissions, and includes a referral network. Treatment programs and specialty services at

offer diverse programming including treatment for substance disorders and detoxification, co-occurring treatment, and acute mental health crisis stabilization in addition to sub-acute programming for substance use and mental health diagnosis. The facility evolves to reflect changing needs in the community. VBPC has a proud history of high levels of community engagement and advocacy for addressing behavioral health needs in collaboration with other community stakeholders.

The Chief Nursing OfficerThe CNO is a key member of the VBPC Leadership Team who will integrate and coordinate a patient-centric nursing strategy with a keen focus on patient care; ensuring that delivery of high-quality and cost-effective health care is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Universal Health Services and in accordance with government regulation, licensing and accreditation requirements. The CNO participates in the hospital’s strategic planning and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives. The Chief Nursing Officer will focus on 5 key areas: People, Service, Quality, Growth, and Finance.

Job Requirements:

Licensure: Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the state of VA.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a CCNE accredited nursing program; Master of Science in Nursing is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated working knowledge of behavioral health nursing clinical practices and management.

Extensive knowledge of principles and practices relevant to nursing and patient care activities.

Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Three or more years of progressive nursing management experience in a behavioral health setting.

Ability to plan, direct, and monitor others’ activities with demonstrated leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment.
