Student Support Specialist, WellnessTracking Code 84-220 Job Description **SUMMARY**The Student Support Specialist, Wellness serves as the front-line support for students to assist with academic planning or any non-academic needs for student success. Student Support Specialist, Wellness is responsible for coordinating, planning, developing, and implementing wellness programming for South Texas College of Law Houston students. The Student Support Specialist, Wellness analyzes survey data, develops needs-based programs, develops web-based wellness materials, collaborates with other law school departments in program design and implementation and serves on committees. The Student Support Specialist, Wellness performs necessary functions to help students dealing with stressors that influence their abilities to be successful in school and life successfully navigate law school through financial and academic planning and makes professional referrals where appropriate.**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Student SupportServes as the primary point of contact for students with mental health concerns and personal matters that significantly impact their ability to perform at their optimal level regarding curricular planning, application of academic and financial aid policies and procedures.Design and conduct educational workshops to increase the academic and personal support for student mental health and emotional wellness.Provide accurate information on academic policies and guidance to students, and make appropriate referrals to address academic difficulties, curricular planning, professional development and disciplinary policies.Provide intermediary support for counseling services and referral to the law schools professional counseling program when necessary.Identify students who need assistance with academic and non-academic success and refer to the proper department and resources available at the law schoolRespond to student inquiries and issues; routes problems to higher-level personnel or the necessary department for resolution. This includes providing general information and appropriate referrals to walk-in students in the student services and support department.Participates in administrative, faculty, student, alumni, and external committees as assigned.WellnessPlan, develop, and implement the law school's student wellness program.Partner with all student-facing departments within the law school to provide structured, cohesive, and accessible wellness tools and resources for all students.Collaborate with the Senior Director, Student Support, to develop the law school's student wellness curriculum and continuously identify best practices and future trends in wellness for law students.Coordinate, market, and support the student wellness curriculum to promote well-being, education, success, and retention for student body.Develop and facilitate workshops and meetings integrating student wellness activities and programming events across the law school. Collaborate with personnel to implement best practices in student wellness across the law school as opportunities arise.Create reports and present data regarding student wellness resources and needs to relevant committees and administrative personnel, when appropriate.Encourage students to address health issues by providing follow-up and referral, when appropriate.Maintain and foster close relationships with external resources relating to counseling, mental health, alcohol and drug issues, sex offense prevention, harassment prevention, and other wellness matters.Maintain a high degree of confidentiality concerning all student information.Comply with all aspects of the law schools Customer Service Standards.**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**N/A**QUALIFICATIONS**To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.The individual must use critical thinking skills, excellent oral and written skills, and sound decision making skills to effectively advise students and disseminate information.**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**Bachelor degree required. Masters degree in counseling, psychology, or related field preferred.Two years of experience with mental health, wellness or related topics. Working with legal community preferred.**LANGUAGE SKILLS**Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, clients, and other employees of the organization.**MATHEMATICAL SKILLS**Ability to perform basic to intermediate math essential. Must possess the ability to analyze numerical data and detect patterns, errors, and trends.**REASONING ABILITY**Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations, especially when department head may be out of office or unavailable.
