Photovoltaic System Optimization Engineer

ABOUT AVANTUSAvantus is shaping the future by making reliable, low-cost clean energy a global reality. Our legacy of leadership in next generation solar energy includes developing one of the nation’s largest solar clusters and one of the first projects to beat fossil fuel prices back in 2016. Today, we are expanding the boundaries of existing technologies to build one of the largest portfolios of smart power plants with integrated storage, capable of providing millions of people with affordable, zero-emission energy – day and night. Through our relentless pursuit of better, we are decarbonizing our planet at the gigaton level, and bringing the advantages of clean energy to all of us.ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Photovoltaic System Optimization Engineer is responsible for identifying and modeling site specific conditions such as meteorological data, soil, shading and other onsite conditions that may impact design and production.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform photovoltaic (PV) modeling including PVsyst, National Renewable Energy Laboratory System Advisor Model or PVlib-python modeling.Lead cross functional design optimization efforts to meet output requirements as per agreed upon terms, while taking into account lowest Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and Levelized Cost of Storage (LCOS).Refine solar project design configuration, land utilization, and equipment choices based on LCOE and LCOS models provided by cost estimator.Review engineering, procurement, and construction designs to normalize production.REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSNo less than a Bachelor’s degree (foreign degree equivalent accepted) in Solar Engineering or Energy Systems.2 years’ experience in cost estimating of renewable energy sector projects, including: running Levelized Cost of Energy models for commercial offtake; creating photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage Systems cost models; quantifying risks and opportunities of unknowns in solar design and technologies; and leading estimating efforts to prepare pricing inputs for Power Purchase Agreement Request for Proposal bids.
