Position Summary:

This position will be housed in the Dropout Prevention team and work closely with individuals across CDE to further develop CDE's trainings and resources on student engagement and attendance. In addition, this individual will work directly with school and district leaders to provide coaching, training, and facilitated learning opportunities. The position will focus in two areas:

Lead Attendance Specialist:

Lead CDE's efforts to organize resources, materials, training, and information and serve as CDE's lead for school and district guidance on improving student attendance and engagement in learning.Grantee and District technical assistance:

Organize events, develop materials, present, facilitate learning sessions and provide individual coaching for grantees of the Expelled and At-Risk Student Services, Student Re-engagement, and Ninth Grade Success grants.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Lead Attendance SpecialistServe as the team's lead for attendance efforts. Lead the collection and dissemination of effective practices, convening of districts, facilitation of planning and implementation support for schools and districts around student attendance and engagement. This may include:

Develop and lead collaborative learning opportunities such as learning cohorts for school and district staff to collaborate, observe practices in action, and participate in training. Develop materials and lead training series for Dropout Prevention Office grantees implementation of effective attendance practices.Serve as CDE's point person for schools and districts with questions about statute and rules on student attendance.Collaborate with School Improvement and School and District Transformation offices to:

Develop tools, trainings, and guidance that support improved attendance and engagementProvide support to schools and districts that are prioritizing student attendance and engagement within school improvement plans

Serve as the point person for districts who have applied for the Empowering Action for School Improvement (EASI) grants focused on attendance and engagement. This will include managing the timeline, providing coaching and feedback on design and monitoring implementation.Organize and lead CDE's annual attendance awareness campaign. This will include coordination with Communications, identification of materials, and partnership with districts to effectively use the materials for their campaigns.Lead and support projects identified in CDE's strategic plan related to student engagement.Develop and maintain knowledge of research, tools, strategies, and policy efforts to measure and improve attendance and engagement.With the office's evaluation staff, create power point presentations and other materials that describe statewide attendance data trends.Coordinate with other CDE offices within the Student Pathways & Engagement Unit, the Office of Learning Supports, Family and Community Engagement, Accountability and Continuous Improvement and Communications to support improving student engagement and attendance. This may include partnering on initiatives, grants, or training opportunities.

Grantee and District technical assistanceProvide technical assistance and organize office initiatives to support the Expelled and At-risk Student Services (EARSS), Student Re-engagement and Ninth Grade Success Grant grantees. This may include:

As a subject matter expert, collaborating with grant leads in planning sessions for the annual Request for Applications process.Providing feedback on overall grant approach such as timelines, goal setting targets, design of grantee planning year and implementation requirements.Conducting individual check-ins to support grantees in planning, troubleshooting, and aligning budget and program.Reviewing grantee budgets, implementation benchmarks, and end of year reports.Conducting site visits to provide support and to monitor implementation.Developing and delivering training sessions for grantees.

Lead the Dropout Prevention Office's annual grantee convenings including coordination with administrative staff, presenting and facilitating sessions..Develop online learning modules and webinars to support grantee learning and coordination.Facilitate learning sessions for non-grantee districts that share grant learning and research on effective practices.Support the Alternative Education Campus (AEC) learning series and coordinate with other CDE offices to develop and present topics for AEC leaders and staff.Prepare, implement and present professional development offerings and deliver technical assistance to grantees and other school and district leaders.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum four (4) years experience at the school, district, or state level in implementation or support of attendance improvement efforts.

Knowledge of and minimum two (2) years experience in designing and facilitating adult learning opportunities.

Minimum four (4) years experience with project management, including establishing goals and timetables, tactical plans, monitoring progress, engaging and working with other personnel or teams, measuring results, developing contingencies, and communication.

Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers (e.g. school districts, other CDE units).

Detailed analytical and problem-solving abilities including attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as on a team.

Experience using the Microsoft suite, Google Suite, Zoom and other commonly used software.

Preferred Competencies:Experience in facilitating groups of school staff in dropout prevention and intervention efforts at the high school levelColorado Principal or Administrator licenseSchool leadership experienceExperience working on an Alternative Education Campus
