I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

GW Information Technology is the chief provider of technology services and applications at GW. The area partners with all key stakeholders across GW to equip students, faculty, and staff with the technology and tools necessary to achieve academic excellence. This position works within GW Information Technology and ensures collaboration with both University stakeholders and external vendors.

This Network Associate position supports the design and installation of information networks that support university’s information network, by coordinating communications functions related to multiple campus networks and by performing telecommunications systems design services in the areas of voice, data and video. Typically with enterprise-wide scope, the core responsibilities of this role are to work closely with customers and internal teams to plan and execute modifications and enhancements to university networks, to update technical documentation associated with each implementation, to evaluate future infrastructure and switching requirements, to develop and recommend solutions, and to implement equipment. This position will diagnose problems, and will install, maintain, and repair network software and components. This position will also typically assist in the overall administration of the university network, and may develop specifications and make recommendations for appropriate resources to purchase. This role provides Tier 1 support.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Network Operations and customer support
  • Experience configuring network switches and monitoring tools such as Solar Winds, Nagios and Prime Infrastructure
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, OSPF, BGP, etc.
  • Experience troubleshooting layer 1 & 2 functionality in a Cisco Environment
  • Some experience troubleshooting Layer 3 protocols
  • Strong communication skills and the desire and ability to work in a team setting
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Remedy
  • Familiarity with network infrastructure elements to be able to troubleshoot both fiber and copper connectivity issues

$32.74 - $52.31
