Staff Software Compiler Engineer (Compiler Team)

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Juniper Networks seeks a highly skilled Software Staff Engineer to join our Software Engineering Compiler group. In this technical role, you will design, develop, and implement test plans and strategies to qualify and upgrade compiler toolchains for our cutting-edge networking products. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience with various compiler tools and toolchains, a deep understanding of operating system internals for Linux and FreeBSD, and a background in network stack

Responsibilities :- Design, implement, and maintain compiler optimizations and code generation techniques for the CLANG LLVM and GCC compiler toolchains- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address performance bottlenecks in the compiler infrastructure- Develop and maintain tools for compiler testing, benchmarking, and performance analysis- Contribute to the development of new compiler features and enhancements to support emerging programming languages and hardware architectures- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior members of the compiler team- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in compiler technology and programming language standards- Actively participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical meetings- Investigate and resolve complex compiler-related issues reported by internal and external stakeholders- Optimize compiler performance, memory usage, and scalability to support large-scale software development- Document compiler features, optimizations, and best practices for internal and external use

Minimum Qualifications :- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering- 10-15 years of professional experience in compiler development, with expertise in CLANG LLVM and GCC toolchains- Strong understanding of compiler theory, code optimization techniques, and code generation methods- Experience working on networking products and embedded applications- Proficiency in C/C++, along with experience in other programming languages such as Rust, Python, and Perl- Familiarity with various CPU architectures (e.g., x86, ARM, MIPS, PowerPC) and their instruction sets- Experience with compiler intermediate representations (IRs) and their transformations- Knowledge of static analysis techniques, code instrumentation (ASAN), fuzzing, and their applications in compiler optimization- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to analyze complex codebases- Strong collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) pipelines- Familiarity with performance profiling and optimization tools (e.g., Valgrind, perf)- Contributions to open-source compiler projects or relevant research publications are a plus- Knowledge of operating system internals for Linux and FreeBSD.

Experience with the Yocto Project and embedded Linux build systems is highly desirable

Minimum Salary: $159,200.00

Maximum Salary:$228,850.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $159,200.00 and $228,850.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
