Position Summary
Undergraduate Education (UE) is a unit with the MSU Provost’s Office under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. UE seeks to advance student success and learning for all undergraduate students through direct programming, policy development, research, and collaboration.
The MSU Testing Center and Assessment Services Office reside in the curricular division of UE and provide testing and scoring services that serve both MSU faculty and students, as well as the surrounding community. Generally, these teams support MSU student make-up and accommodated examinations; proctoring course group examinations through a pool of professional on-call proctors; scanning, scoring, and reporting of course examinations; consultation to faculty and instructors on course assessment best practices and how to interpret scoring results.
Reporting to the Testing Center and Assessment Services Coordinator, the Assessment Service Consultant will consult with faculty regarding student assessments, course evaluations, and research surveys. This person will scan, score, provide, and help faculty/staff interpret results using optical mark scanners and scoring software such as Digital Desk or ScanTools Prisma. Additionally, this person is responsible for providing high quality customer service to diverse population and will consult with faculty/staff regarding our services and variety of options available regarding test delivery and evaluation.
Primary Duties:
40% -Maintain ongoing proficiency in business aspects of the related test scanning and scoring industry-specific guidelines related to data submission and regulations; review and analyze data and records received to identify and resolve inconsistencies and ensure data is accurate and meets scoring and/or survey requirements; take direction from leadership regarding the analysis, processes and procedures, and reporting regarding University and testing industry guidelines; assist with compliance and regulations of data submissions, including people, applications, policies and procedures to include FERPA policies; assist with the assessment of proposed operational solutions to comply with industry and University requirements and guidelines; provide business support to leadership in operations of Scoring Office and Testing Center to include financial transactions and purchasing; assist with annual or regular reporting requirements through unit scanning and scoring job tracking processes.
40% - Provide high quality customer service to a diverse population; consult with faculty/staff regarding services and variety of options available regarding test delivery and evaluation; coordinate incoming and outgoing documents, reports and information regarding University course examinations, research data and surveys; perform test scoring using optical mark scanner and software application; create, provide, and explain test/assessment scoring reports to faculty/staff.
10% - Implement and configure test scoring software (Digital Desk & ScanTools Prisma); develop and enhance evaluations/surveys using online survey engine (Qualtrics) with faculty coordination.
10% - Other duties as assigned (position will be cross-trained to support Testing Center proctor duties).
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in Business, Communications, Math, Liberal Arts, Data Analytics, Information Technology/Management or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administrative record-keeping and ability to understand, apply and interpret federal, state, institutional regulations; experience in data analytics or an information technology/management area related to the duties to be performed; knowledge and ability to manage and enter confidential data; interpersonal communication skills or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Computer literacy including Microsoft Office, especially using spreadsheets
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years’ experience working in a professional office setting.
Working understanding of academic assessment and reporting.
Experience with Digital Desk and ScanTools Prisma software programs.
Demonstrated ability to implement highly detailed oriented processes with a high degree of accuracy
Experience working in higher education settings.
Experience with MSU advising and administrative systems (D2L, Campus Solutions).
