Position Summary:

The Social Worker provides direct assistance to the children of PUSD by facilitating optimum school, home and community adjustment, promotes programs of self-concept development, building ego-strength and making decisions with regard to a variety of life concerns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works cooperatively and maintains effective relationships with students, parents, district personnel and the general public.Assess needs of students through observations, social history interviews and consultations with teachers and other staff and provide direct interventions (support groups, brief psychoeducational individual sessions, mediations, behavior management plans, classroom presentations, teacher support) to help ensure the success of students.Coordinate intervention strategies for Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) on various topics (Behavioral Health Team participation, Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies, bully prevention, peer mediation, substance use awareness, character education).Facilitate referrals to community agencies to help meet the needs of students and families.Participate in crisis intervention services as requested by administration (respond in a timely manner to crisis situations, assume leadership or guidance roles as requested, facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies for needed follow up as appropriate).Coordinate school programs that address the physical needs of students and their families such as food, clothing, shelter and holiday assistance.Maintain adequate safeguards for the confidentiality of information as the circumstances require.Participate in or lead professional growth opportunities through various means such as staff development opportunities, conferences, seminars and workshops.Provide consultation to school administrator(s), teachers, staff and parents regarding assessment and intervention plans of students targeted for services.Demonstrate knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and sensitivity to diverse cultures.Serves as resource person for administration, teachers, attendance office and nurse's office.Attending Governing Board meetings and presents reports when necessary.Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS :

Education & Experience:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), ADE Certified School Social Worker, or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Bachelor's in Social Work or Related Field or any combination of education and work related experience that would evidence the ability to carry out the responsibilities of this position.Knowledge and awareness of Native American cultures.Two years' experience with Native American students and families preferred.Bilingual - Navajo/English preferred, but not required.DPS Fingerprint Clearance CardComputer Proficiency : Microsoft Office, Google Suite

WORK ENVIRONMENT :

The position is exposed to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses; occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions; exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities; exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment; function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.
