The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a federal law that provides educational rights and services to children and youth expierencing homelessness.

Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking an hourly

School Social Worker

to provide individual, group and family counseling to address environmental and mental health barriers impacting school success to our McKinney-Vento student population This position will provide academic support to McKinney-Vento seniors to ensure they are graduation ready. Additionally, this role will assist seniors in post-graduation plans to include FAFSA support, exploration of college and/or trade schools and employment ideas.

The SCPS School Social Work Team works from an ecological systems model and employs Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma Informed Schools models, as these interventions are ideal for the support of families experiencing homelessness.

Essential Job Functions:

Provides extensive case management to support the McKinney-Vento student population; manages a full case management life cycle from identification and intake through post-graduationMonitors student attendance, grades and participation at various intervals throughout the yearLeverages findings to implement, adjust and execute a support plan tailored to an individual studentConducts suicide assessments and makes appropriate referrals throughout the school yearProvides academic support to McKinney-Vento seniors to ensure they become graduation readyAssesses tutoring needs of McKinney Vento seniors for graduation requirements and links them with appropriate tutoring supportMonitors SOLs that the student will need to complete for graduationAssists McKinney-Vento seniors in post-graduation plans to include FAFSA support, exploration of college and./or trade schools and employment ideas.Directs families to resources, education and training in support of the success of the student; works with parents in securing community based resources to address home-based needs.Develops an effective working relationship with students, parents, teachers, school staff and community partners concerned with student welfare.Click here to read the full Job Description for this role.

Education and Experience:

Required

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School BoardTwo (2) years of successful, full-time experience as a Social Worker, ideally within a public education institution, including crisis intervention and case management experienceExperience working with "at risk" students, especially those who have faced or currently face homelessness

Employment Terms:

The schedule for this support position is part-time and structured on an hourly, as needed basis. This position is grant funded for three (3) years and evaluated annually.
