Sr. Platform Database Engineer (Pittsburgh, PA)

The R&D SRC DevSecOps team supports all SRC’s Enterprise Software Applications along with the next-gen BreaSe platform. The DBA Engineer will manage all database administration needs including and not limited to: backups, restores, snapshots, replication, patching. The selected candidate will support a range of SQL and noSQL databases (as MS SQL server, MongoDB and others) and perform DB performance tuning as required. The candidate will also assist in design and execution of various IaC initiatives migrating between AWS accounts and technologies.

Your role:

Database Administration: Oversee all aspects of database management, including backups, restores, snapshots, replication, and patching. Support a variety of SQL and NoSQL databases such as MS SQL Server and MongoDB, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor system environments and performance metrics. Proactively triage and troubleshoot database-related issues, working closely with engineering teams to identify and implement effective resolutions.

Best Practices & Security Implementation: Advise on and implement database best practices and maintain security policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensure robust network and security configurations to protect sensitive data.

Production Release Coordination: Facilitate the product delivery process by coordinating production releases of critical externally facing products. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, ASIP, and other regulatory guidelines while working with the PMO to meet project release schedules.

Database AuditingCandidate should have experience with developing and implementing a database auditing framework in MongoDB to track all CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations, including a process for detecting and evaluating anomalies to enhance security.

System Architecture: Design the overall structure of the database system, including how data flows through a multi-tier architecture design.

Technological Evaluation: Stay current with emerging database technologies and evaluate their potential to improve performance or capabilities.

Data Replication & Mirroring: Experience with configuring data replication and mirroring technologies to maintain up-to-date copies of production data.

7+ years in a regulated industry (e.g., healthcare), supporting customer-facing products with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

Database Expertise: Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MS SQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL) with strong skills in administration, optimization, and security compliance.

AWS Knowledge: Expertise with AWS database services and complimentary services (Cloudwatch, S3, etc.), including network structuring and security configurations. Hand-on experience using automation tools like Ansible and Terraform to provision and configure a full-stack solution.

Disaster Recovery Planning & Implementation: Extensive experience designing and executing comprehensive disaster recovery strategies for large-scale databases, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.

Programming Experience: Proficiency with modern programming languages such as .NET or Java, demonstrating the ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable applications.

Containerization: Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Cloud Foundry, including designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications for scalable and efficient cloud environments.

Experience with RabbitMQ, Neo4j (or equivalent graph database), or ELK stack, or is a plus.
