GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Computer Science Academic Advisors are full-time staff positions that report to the Chair of the Department of Computer Science. They are responsible for the initial onboarding and ongoing academic advising of computer science students in partnership with our faculty and university staff and mentors focused on student success. In addition to traditional academic advising, Academic Advisors will work with each student to ensure their continued success by monitoring their progress and proactively reaching out and working with students to resolve any difficulties or challenges.
Academic Advisors will also help connect students with relevant industry internships and other opportunities, working with faculty and staff involved in our industry partnerships. Advisors will provide feedback and insights to departmental faculty and administration to help us improve our programs and processes for student success.
COMMUNICATIONS
Communicating across all platforms, primarily with internal customers, new and enrolled computer science students and faculty and all related offices that service the student experience while enrolled at Illinois Tech.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Working primarily with internal customers, enrolled computer science students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master's degree in Computer Science OR Master's degree in Higher Education OR a Bachelor's degree with 2 years of higher education advising experience is required. Computer science education or experience is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Experience with Ellucian Banner and DegreeWorks is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google G Suite.

Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibility
Assess incoming students' transcripts to evaluate what prerequisite courses they have completed before matriculation and which they will need to take before starting their program or taking particular courses. Enter that information in our systems. Work with incoming students to determine their initial course selections.

Key Responsibility
Be aware of general graduate academic policies, core curriculum requirements, degree requirements, and available specializations. Be familiar with prerequisites for the several master's programs offered by the computer science department, and the prerequisites for all computer science courses. Assist students in course selection using this knowledge.

Monitor ongoing student academic progress through the Early Warning System, DegreeWorks, and other student-support systems to maximize retention and student success. Follow up to develop action plans for students to address deficiencies or issues that arise in specific courses.

Process petitions and requests for course repeats, course substitutions, late registration and withdrawal, etc
