As a Database Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining highly available and secure database solutions that align with established guidelines and business continuity objectives.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and architect Highly Available and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) compliant database platforms, aligning with established HA/DR requirements and business continuity objectives. You will also collaborate to support database-related projects and initiatives and ensure that database solutions meet business requirements.You will implement database solutions using appropriate technologies. You will also define standards and best practices for database development.You will develop and maintain processes to ensure accurate data extraction, transformation, and loading.You will design, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data is protected from loss or corruption.You will implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls, authentication, and encryption, to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.You will monitor database performance and availability, proactively identifying and resolving issues, and ensuring that databases meet the organization's uptime and reliability requirements.You will create and maintain technical documentation, including database design documents, installation and configuration instructions, and operational procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure compliance with industry and organizational standards.Who you are:

Experienced

- You have two (2) years of experience in Information Technology.Desired

- We hope you have a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration. We also hope you have experience in database engineering or administration.Committed to Equity

- You have expertise in server and data server virtualization, database backup, recovery, and planning. You understand data security, access control, and encryption. You are proficient writing T-SQL queries and have experience with cloud-based databases like Microsoft Azure SQL and Amazon Web Services (AWS). You are experienced in database migration, automation and scripting. You can develop and maintain ETL (extract, transform, load) processes using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). You have knowledge of data compliance standards such as Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). You are also familiar with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and data warehouse and data modeling design techniques.Collaborative

Work Schedule

- Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies. You will have to respond promptly while on call to any IT outages, even outside regular work hours and must be prepared to be onsite if necessary to resolve technology issues.Work Environment

- This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion.Washington State Residency Requirement

- Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.Security Requirements

- As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.Security Requirements

- In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles.
