JOB SUMMARY: The Licensed School Social Worker provides direct and indirect social work services to students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems that interfere with their performance in school, and facilitates communication among school, home, and community providers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assignedPerforms casework service with individual students to correct personal, social, or emotional maladjustment related to their educational and social progressCoordinate or serve as a member of diagnostic teams and educational planning and placement committees and provide biological, psychological, and sociological assessment information related to planning for children with adjustment problemsConsults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behaviorPerforms casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources availableMakes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student's backgroundAssists students directly toward adjustment to schoolProvides direct social work services to students on caseload and building-based support for behavior as a wholeQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Full authorization and approval to be a school social worker in the state of MichiganExpertise in working with at-risk youth and children or families in crisisAbility to work collaboratively and as part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals focused on student achievementExceptional knowledge of students with disabilitiesUnderstanding of MTSS/PBIS in a school setting preferredHighest level of integrity and professionalism both in and out of the schoolEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree from a graduate school of social work programPrevious experience in a school setting preferred

School social worker certification
