Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill three (3) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) CAPE Peer Educator position at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education (CAPE) Peer Education Program centers student voice and leadership in gender-based violence prevention and sexual health promotion efforts at Oregon State, helping equip our community with the knowledge, skills and resources to cultivate a campus culture of care and consent and prevent gender-based violence from occurring in the first place. CAPE Peer Educators work collaboratively to develop peer-led educational initiatives, workshops, outreach events, and activities centered on violence prevention and sexual health.

Please note that this position does not include working directly with survivors or providing peer advocacy services. However, supporting survivors by helping cultivate a trauma-informed, survivor-centered campus environment through education, awareness and outreach is at the heart of this position.

This position is compensated at $15.90 per hour, with scheduled raises after each year served in the position.

Position DutiesCAPE Peer Educators design, implement and evaluate peer-led primary prevention programming. This includes facilitating and developing educational content on gender-based violence prevention, bystander intervention, consent, sexual health, healthy relationships, healthy sexuality, and survivor support. Examples of specific Peer Educator responsibilities include:

Facilitating educational workshopsTablingPlanning and hosting events with campus and community partnersPlanning and implementing programming for existing health promotion initiatives as assigned, including Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), Stalking Prevention and Awareness Month (SPAM), and Sexual Assault Awareness & Action Month (SAAM)Assisting in updating gender-based violence prevention and education curricula and presentation materialsWorking with CAPE staff and the Student Health Services marketing team to create social media and marketing materials and messaging related to peer education programmingConducting outreach to maintain existing partnerships and create new partnerships with both on- and off-campus organizationsAssisting the Sexual Health team in maintaining the distribution of safer sex supplies, including stocking and tracking safer sex supplies at Safer Sex Spot locations across campusSupporting the Prevention & Education Team, the CAPE Team, and the Student Health Services TeamOther duties as assigned

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of studyMust meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employmentMust meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

Current OSU studentDemonstrated strong communication and organizational skillsPassionate about preventing and advocating against all forms of gender-based violenceAbility to maintain composure in the face of opposing viewpointsDemonstrated interest in gender-based violence prevention education, peer education, consent education, healthy sexuality education, and bystander intervention educationComfort presenting sensitive material to groups in a variety of settingsAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyWillingness and availability to work afternoons and evenings on a regular basis and weekends occasionallyCommitment to inclusivity, diversity, and intersectionalityAbility to attend CAPE Peer Educator training in-person on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th from 9am-5pmAbility to complete NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training onlineAbility to commit to 8 hours per week during the academic year (duties performed in-person at the CAPE office)Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Experience leading presentations and facilitating discussions with peersExperience in gender-based violence prevention and educationComfort discussing topics related to gender-based violence prevention, including but not limited to: consent, healthy sexuality, boundaries, power dynamics, social norms, gender-based violence, and bystander interventionExperience delivering workshops and programs to student groups in a variety of contextsExperience with assessment and program evaluationExperience as a peer educatorExperience with training and curriculum developmentExperience tabling at campus and community eventsExperience working directly with student populations
