The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. Position Overview:

TEA is seeking a Content Strategist to join the Creative Services team, which provides a full range of graphic design, content strategy, content development and editing, marketing and branding, and user experience/user interface (UX/UI) support to the Offices of School Programs & Analytics, Assessment, and Reporting (OSP/OAAR).

The Content Strategist will support internal TEA teams in OSP/OAAR with user-centered content development, data analysis/reporting, and external communications for key initiatives. In this role, the Content Strategist will be committed to understanding the communications, branding, and marketing needs and challenges of OSP/OAAR program teams and to developing clear, user-centered communications to support program needs. The position will build relationships with internal teams to support in process and project management and leverage effective communication skills to directly engage and support stakeholders like school districts and regional education service centers. This position will report to the Director of Creative Services.

This position sits inside the District Operations, Technology, and Sustainability Supports (DOTSS) division. The DOTSS division is located inside of the Instructional Strategy department, which is part of OSP/OAAR. The Instructional Strategy department supports districts and schools in building and executing a strong instructional vision to accelerate student learning and increase student achievement. To do this, teams across the department work together to develop high-quality instructional materials for Texas educators, implement ongoing, job-embedded aligned teacher and leader training, and build strong systems of operational support. Creative Services works closely with Instructional Strategy teams to produce user-centered communications for internal and external audiences, including educators and district leaders in the field.

Essential Functions

Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned.

1. Process and Project Management:

Will contribute to project management system updates, communicates and coordinates protocols for sharing and collaborating on projects within team and with other key stakeholders or teams, and occasionally leads Agile-like team meetings.

2. User-Centered Content Development and Strategy:

Supports Creative Services team in content development for OSP/OAAR teams, for both internal and external communications. Writes, proofreads, and evaluates content for adherence with Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), TEA Brand Book, TEA Writing Style Guide, and other content quality indicators, rubrics, and frameworks developed by the agency. Thinks strategically about content development-always considering how content works within ecosystems and focuses on the audience/s. Builds relationships with a variety of internal stakeholders and program teams to support the creation and development of content, communications, and resources that meet identified program needs. Collects, analyzes, prepares, and presents data and materials in response to program requests.

3. Web UX/UI Content Development and Strategy:

Supports creation of high-quality, user-centered online content development and strategy for OSP/OAAR web properties, including but not limited to SharePoint, TEA.Texas.gov, TEALearn, and Texas Gateway. Considers content strategy solutions to increase site usability and improve end user experience. Collaborates with project leads and Creative Services team to develop content solutions that support execution of a comprehensive digital strategy. Adheres to CMOS, TEA Brand Book, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in 1998, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards.

4. 508 Accessibility:

Reviews, produces, and analyzes content for accessibility for assistive technologies (Compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in 1998 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards). Continually builds 508 accessibility compliance knowledge through daily work, as well as formal, creative empowerment tools, so OSP/OAAR teams can work on their own. Builds relationships with 508 accessibility experts in the agency as part of a larger, team collaborative strategy. Designs tools and communicates 508 accessibility requirements to OSP/OAAR staff.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Education:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

• Degree field(s):

Communications, Public Relations or related field.

• Experience:

At least three (3) years of experience in communications, content management, content strategy, writing, editing, proofreading, and public relations.

• Substitutions:

Education and experience may substitute for one another on a year-for-year basis.
