POSITION SUMMARY:

The Linux System Administrator 1 will assist in the day-to-day administration, support and ongoing enhancement of Menard, Inc’s servers & storage. Applicants should have experience supporting mission-critical network environments and maximizing system uptime and productivity. Candidates must be able to work in a secure, mission-critical production-computing environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development & Support:

Analyze all aspects of physical and virtual Linux infrastructure and develop/implement plans to improve items such as utilization, capacity and performance

Stay informed and educated of new technologies

Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies, platforms, protocols and applications in order to meet Menard, Inc.’s business requirements

Provide day-to-day support for physical and virtual servers, enterprise backup system, app servers, and enterprise storage systems

Configure and deploy new physical and virtual servers

Create scripting to automate tasks in the Linux environments

Server Maintenance:

Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of Menard’s servers & storage

Investigate, resolve and document any problems

Install new patches/upgrades as needed

Utilize monitoring and alerting solutions to oversee Menard’s server and storage environments

Skills/Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a Computer Science or Networking related field OR Equivalent work experience

Excellent communication skills

Excellent design and analytical skills

Ability to remain calm and courteous in demanding situations

Ability to successfully negotiate with vendors to provide service to the corporation

Ability to manage multiple priorities

Ability to work independently, as well as, cooperate with others in team efforts

Strong proficiency with:

Linux based servers (Red Hat, SUSE)

High-availability concepts

Scripting for Linux system configuration and maintenance (bash, Python, Ansible, Salt)

Linux systems in mixed environments (Linux, Windows)

All server applications (E-mail, web servers, database software, anti-virus and general file and print services)

Server hardware

Enterprise monitoring and management

Enterprise backup solutions

Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work

May be required to work overtime and carry-on call cell phone, including weekends and holidays
