Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a

Behavior Interventionist

to join the team at Smith Station Elementary school, home of the Sharks! This role works collaboratively with a student's educational team and parents to develop and implement intervention strategies (positive behavior supports) for the classroom and within the school environment that allows the student to integrate behaviorally into the school setting successfully.

Essential Functions:

Provides support to Special Education Case Managers and Individual Education Plan (IEP) teams on specific academic and behavior goals to support student learning.Collaborates with teachers to conduct a functional behavioral assessment (FBA) to understand the cause of the student's behavior.Supports behavior intervention plans (BIPs) through data driven intervention methods including Check In/Check Out (CICO), small group and 1v1 support.Provides daily crisis intervention services to students and families as appropriate.Plans curriculum, lessons, modifications, accommodations, teaching methods and strategies needed to maximize the learning experience for students on caseload.Supports teachers with classroom management strategies through classroom observations, facilitating social skills groups such as morning meetings inside the classroom.Collaborates with parents, professional staff and agencies regarding issues of each student as needed.Click here to read the full Job Description for this role.

Education and Experience:

Required

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School BoardExperience working with "at risk" and/or "behaviorally challenged" children in a role that required behavior intervention and/or behavior coachingPreferred

Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)Prior teaching experience within a public school systemRegistered as a Qualified Mental Health Professional or Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)Special Requirements:

Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.Special education teachers assigned to work with students on the Autism Spectrum should have knowledge in evidence-based practices for instructing students with autism, including, but not limited to, Applied Behavior Analysis, alternative communication methods, modeling and structured teacher (visual scheduling/supports, physical structure and teaching components.)Special education teachers assigned to work with students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities should have training to include the following: tending to students' personal hygiene, using specialized equipment, accessing augmentative communication equipment, following seizure protocol, implementing specialized feeding protocol, body positioning, tracheotomy care and suctioning.

Employment Terms:

Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day), 10.5-Month (210 Day), 11-Month (220 Day)

-OR-

12-Month (240 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
