Under direction of the Child Welfare Social Worker Supervisor, the CPS Social Worker will provide intensive social work services to children and families in Montgomery County.

Social Workers in Child Services will provide social work services in child protective services, case management, adoption, and foster care. This position requires a thorough understanding of social work assessment techniques and treatment approaches primarily of a crisis, supportive, and behavioral nature. This work involves comprehensive child services that are jointly planned with other members of a multi-disciplinary team and supervisors. Assessment and intervention are performed with a considerable degree of independence.

The Children's Services Social Worker will provide varied social worker services including investigation of alleged neglect or abuse; provision of in-depth assessment of family dynamics and needs, assessment, and intervention; provision of expert witness at court hearings; and, involvement of custody and removal of children from home.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment, and investigation of abuse or neglect of children;Ability to interact and motivate a resistant involuntary client population and the public who may not agree with the laws, rules or policies of the process or the programs;Ability to prepare documentation such as written investigative reports for the court, case records and treatment plans;Ability to testify as an expert witness;Ability to employ advanced case management interview techniques to establish a supportive relationship and involve families in the initial assessment for the need of services;Ability to quickly assess the risks and safety of the client environment during daylight hours, after dark and in high crime areas;Ability to analyze and assess child development safety issues in relation to risk factors;Ability to analyze tense family situations and make decisions about removing children when the decision has to be made with limited direct information and limited access to consultation;Ability to communicate effectively and establish supportive client relationships;Independently perform assessments to identify needs;Establish an appropriate service/treatment plan;Serve as inter/multi-disciplinary team member;Refer clients and families to a variety of services to meet financial, psychological, emergency care, emotional, or other needs;Assume a case manager role to follow the client through agency and external services;Ability to talk directly, simply and precisely to clients;Innovative, creative, and flexible in approach with the child;Use knowledge of a range of services and supportive level counseling and other counseling techniques to provide client services;Utilize agency guidelines, specific federal or state standards, and principles to provide services to clients;Awareness of program aims and objects to address these with clients independentlyDocument direct client interactions, services development, and referrals in accordance with agency requirements; and,Ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Employee works in a variety of settings which range from modern public service buildings, community residential facilities, home environments, or institutions where odors and noise may be present. Employee may experience emotional stress due to the nature of interactions with clients or service providers. Behavioral problems such as aggression of clients could cause bodily injury for employees in some settings.Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work or a Bachelor's degree in human services and one year of experience as a social worker. The NC Collaborate satisfies a year of experience. All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.

Social Worker Trainees will be considered.

Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver's License.Preferred Qualifications
