Qualifications: Valid Illinois Professional Educators License (PEL) with endorsement as School Service Personnel, Social Worker and experience related to children and family services

Reports To: Building Administrators / Assistant Superintendent for Special Services / Director for Special Education

Evaluation: As defined by PERA requirements

Work Calendar: Full-Time employment of 180 days or as determined contractually

Position Goal: To facilitate the process of helping students make positive changes in their social/emotional development as it relates to their leaning experience

The Social Worker shall be responsible for the following duties and perform other duties that may be assigned by the administration

Superintendent/Board:

Observe and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and proceduresAttend Board meetings when necessary to provide supportive materials and informationFollow all State of Illinois codes relative to the requirements of the Social Worker programCommunicate Social Worker program initiatives and objectives to the Administration, Staff and CommunityProvide reports when requested or requiredDistrict/School:

Determines unique needs of students through assessment; utilize student academic performance, behavior and attendance data to guide appropriate interventionPlans services to special education students in the form of individual, small group or large groups addressing behavioral and social/emotional difficulties (must be prepared to show evidence of plans upon requestDirects appropriate service through social work methods for situations affecting student educational processAssures that advocacy needs are met in accordance with established laws, rules and regulationsProvides short/long term counseling services to regular education student who are referred by parent request and have social/emotional and/or behavioral difficultiesIdentifies, selects and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and specific needs.Assists staff in developing effective Response to Intervention strategies for students to include recommendations and modifications for working with special education students in classroom settingsConsults and collaborates with parents/guardians and educators; serve as liaison between home and schoolProvides community referrals to families in need of additional services and consults with parents regarding their child's social/emotional needsParticipates in strategy, screenings and parent/teacher meetings as neededAssists students in areas of academic, social behavioral, and emotional developmentCompletes social developmental histories for case studies, which may include adaptive and/or behavioral scales as well as functional assessments and interpret this information for staff and parentsParticipates in pre-school screenings by conducting parent interviews and administering screening toolsSupports the administration of achievement testingMaintains files on all students servedAssists in Crisis Intervention as outlined in District's planMonitors student behavior in non-instructional areas as assigned or required and intervenes to control and modify disruptive behaviorPresents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the District
