About the Role

Are you interested in enabling end-users and data scientists access to the data they need when they need it? We're hiring

Backend Software Engineers with TS/SCI clearance and polygraph

to expand our Data Lake offering built on top of AWS S3 and DynamoDB into an enterprise-wide Data Hub. This system currently ingests data from multiple sources, processes and stores that data, performs indexing, and disseminates the content to downstream systems in a streaming fashion. We will expand the capabilities to provide a secure, highly available, and scalable environment for both humans and machines to derive data insights and analytics from raw through fully modeled and indexed forms. With your help, we will modernize the data lake with new access patterns and services to include AI/ML enrichment, ETL and modeling, search, and dissemination, all via an event-driven architecture. Around all of this we will need rock-solid APIs to support both programmatic and UI-driven access and management.

In this role, you will:Develop software utilizing your knowledge of various data access patterns and underlying technology implementations.Properly secure the data from unauthorized access at multiple data access points (e.g. search discovery rules, repository read rules, S3 bucket policies, etc).Apply your excellent knowledge of the AWS ecosystem to support both the existing infrastructure (built on EC2 with Terraform) and to help us build the next-generation data hub.You might thrive in this role if you:

Possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraphHave a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fieldHave 4+ years of Java experienceHave 4+ years of Spring Boot (Spring Framework) experienceHave experience with testing frameworks and tools (e.g. JUnit, AssertJ, Mockito, Spring Runner)Have experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash)Have experience with search technologies such as AWS OpenSearch/ElasticSearch/Solr/LuceneHave experience working within a Linux environmentHave experience working with a message-driven architecture (e.g. SNS/SQS, Kafka, Kinesis, JMS, etc.)Have experience with Git for source controlDemonstrate ability to determine the right tool or technology for the task at handWorks well in a team environmentStrong communication skillsYou will excel in this role if you have also these skills:

Experience operating Data Lakes or Data Hubs with knowledge on how to optimize storage technology for client access patterns, and how to propagate CRUD operations throughout a distributed stack (including versioning nuances).Familiarity in the AWS ecosystem of services (e.g. S3, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, Lake Formation, EMR, ECS, RDS, Kinesis, EC2, Lambda, CloudWatch)Familiarity with Reactive Programming (e.g. Project Reactor, RxJava)Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker container environmentAbility to identify external data specifications for common data representationsExperience building monitoring and alerting mechanisms for data pipelinesExperience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Ansible)Contributor to an open source communityThe ideal candidate will be based in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC areaBTI360 benefits for full-time teammates
