ESCRIPTION

The Philadelphia Area Sexual Health Initiative (PASHI) is hiring a part-time health educator to that will primarily co-facilitate two different programs:

1.) Making Proud Choices a group-level intervention for African American adolescents ages 14 to 21;

2.) SHARP, a group-level intervention for pregnant and parenting adolescents of any race or gender, ages 14-21.SHARP will also be implemented with participants with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), in particular Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This position will also assist with a social emotional learning (SEL) project PASHI takes part in at a city public school. PASHI is also engaged in sexuality work with older adults (50+). The part-time health educator will need to have flexibility to participate on a variety of projects and tasks related to the work of PASHI as assigned. There are 20-30 hours per week associated with this position and you must have a flexible work schedule with availability to work some evenings and weekends with advance notice.

This position is responsible for implementing educational programs for youth and adults with a strong emphasis on adolescent reproductive health outcomes (teen pregnancy and STI/HIV prevention). Health Educators must work independently or in teams as assigned. Health Educators also conduct community outreach; assist in developing and maintaining community partnerships, and help recruit participants in person and through electronic means (ex: social media) in venues where young people can be reached. The Health Educator position will require travel to community partner intervention sites and flexible working hours to accommodate intervention sessions, trainings, and planning meetings. Based on federal, state, local, or PHMC public health guidance related to Covid-19, programming may also take place virtually. Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory Criminal, FBI, and Child Abuse clearance checks in a timely manner. This position reports to the Program Manager.

ESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the interventionAttend and participate in all required trainings, meetings, and conferencesFacilitation and implementation of assigned PASHI interventions, ensuring fidelityAssist with participant recruitmentHealth Educators are also responsible for registering participants and maintaining program data as required by the funding source and/or program leadershipSchedule intervention sessions at partner youth provider sitesMaintain correspondence with site contactsParticipate in the development of proposals for funding as neededServe as a liaison to HIV/STI and other reproductive health resourcesOther duties as assigned.S

XPERIENCE

At least one year of experience implementing sexuality-based programs requiredStrong knowledge of science-based teen pregnancy prevention, HIV/STI prevention and reproductive health education principlesExperience providing services to adolescents preferredFamiliarity with Philadelphia adolescent and teen organizations preferredExperience working with individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities preferred

Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Commensurate experience will be considered.

Hourly rate is commensurate with experience. PHMC offers benefits for part-time employees.
