Job Purpose

Under the close supervision of a Licensed Certified Social Worker, provides direct professional social work services to specialized populations such as children, seniors, substance abusers, and physically or mentally ill individuals.

Essential Job DutiesProvides consultation services to the Public Health Nurses in the Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP)Provides case management services for their own caseloadMakes home visitsAttends staff conferences and meetings related to progress of patients/clientsContributes to program evaluation and researchPrepares case histories and other reports, maintains records on social services rendered, and monitors activities of patients/clientsMaintains contact with other health, education, and welfare agencies and professionals in order to assure that the needs of patients/clients are metInterprets specific program policies and procedures to patients/clients and other interested parties

Examples of Other DutiesMakes home visits and evaluates living/environmental conditions. Transports clients/patients. Attends training and seminars. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Training and ExperiencePossession of a master's degree in social work from a college or university approved by the Council of Social Work Education.

Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid license, issued by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners, as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) is required at the time of application.

Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDUREApplicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Conditions of Employment

Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

Employees must maintain licenses and certifications throughout the course of their employment.

Some positions in this classification may be required to respond to emergency situations and work overtime with little or no notice.

Some positions in this classification require completion of an approved training program, and must pass a competency test by the second training available after appointment to this classification.

Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, and/or other limited physical activities.

Some positions within this classification require traveling between work sites.
