To assist and assess patients with breastfeeding while making daily rounds.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES / SPECIFIC JOB COMPETENCIES1. Evaluate patients who have problems breastfeeding. Develop feeding schedule/plan with the pediatrician, bedside nurse and mother. Determine LATCH score. Document all findings in EMR.2. Round on mothers in the NICU.3. See patients on other units who have a Lactation Consult.4. Educate staff with in-service, updates, and skills day. Teach Breastfeeding classes for childbirth education course.5. Promote community awareness. Refer to community resources.6. Attend SBCH Breastfeeding Council meetings.7. Maintain employee pumping room.8. Review current literature and disseminate among staff.LEVEL OF EDUCATIONBachelor's Degree in a healthcare fieldOn-going attendance of continuing education conferences on Breastfeeding

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSInternational Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)Registered Nurse preferred

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTSKnowledge of Baby FriendlyExperience in a Baby Friendly Institution preferred

YEARS OF RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE1 year working in acute care setting with breastfeeding mothers"Hands on" knowledge of breastfeeding in Baby Friendly facility preferred
