We have an extraordinary employment opportunity for a person who enjoys making a difference in the lives of youth who are at-risk or involved in the juvenile justice system in Prince William County, the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. The Shelter program is a short-term, non-secure residential program for youth ages 10 to17 who are court ordered or in foster care awaiting placement.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:The Detention Supervisor must be able to maintain the program operations as established by the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and the Prince William County Office of Youth Services. In addition, the Supervisor must address all disciplinary concerns of youth using a trauma-informed approach. You must be able to ensure all facility activities are executed during assigned shifts. You will be responsible for the oversight of the facility operations during the evening and weekend hours and are considered the administrator on duty during that time. The incumbent will be expected to use independent judgement within the framework of established policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal guidelines. In addition, will provide direct supervision for shelter staff by scheduling work assignments, overseeing and evaluating staff performance, training staff, recommending hires and disciplinary actions. The supervisor must have knowledge and experience with implementing positive behavioral modification methods, pro-social engagement, progressive engagement, trauma-informed models and have experience with conflict resolution. Must use appropriate physical restraint techniques when necessary (training provided) and be culturally sensitive and understand both developmental and behavioral needs of youth. This position reports directly to the facility Assistant Superintendent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION,

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience.

PREFERENCES:Experience leading a team; working with at-risk youth in a residential setting; applying behavioral modification systems; and training staff.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:Tuesday- Saturday 3pm-11pm (some holidays may be required).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of a community disaster or emergency

ENTRY SALARY RANGE:

$31.96 - $45.42 Hourly
