Database Administrator

to join our consulting services group.

Duties:Construct and manage databases on AWS EC2, DynamoDB and RDS for ASCENDING.Perform tasks such as testing, error resolution, query optimization, and modifications to enhance database performance.Utilize Python and AWS to develop a Spark framework for efficient data ETL process, preparing data for ASCENDING's big data services and supporting data engineers and developers.Assess database and evaluate event results to choose the best solution and solve problems. Report to supervisor and team weekly to discuss database server optimization, including remove unnecessary log files and useless data to save storage, whether should ASCENDING scale up/down the EC2 computing instances of databases.Collaborate with development teams to optimize data retrieval performance, ensure seamless integration and functionality for web applications.Create comprehensive documentation, including database schema and ERD, to clarify database structures for users.Manage user permissions using AWS IAM to control access to ASCENDING's databases.Plan and install upgrades of database management system software, including patching and updating to newer versions.Ensure that upgrades are implemented smoothly without impacting the system's performance or data integrity.Develop and implement robust data backup and recovery strategies.Ensure the availability of backup systems and perform regular testing to guarantee data integrity and quick recovery in case of data loss to ensure the continuity of ASCENDING's businesses.Requirements:

Master's degree in computer information systems, computer science, or a closely related field combined with demonstrable ability in the skill/knowledge in the following areas:- Database management system software such as MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server, database administration, database design, backup, recovery and security, advanced data modeling, database performance/query tuning.- AWS such as EC2, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, EMR and Glue.- Big data technologies such as NoSQL, data processing, MapReduce, Hadoop, Apache Spark, PySpark.- Python, SQL, Linux operating system and its command line like Shell Script.Alternatively, the employer will accept a bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science, or a closely related field plus 2 years of experience reflecting demonstrable ability in the skill set described above.
