The Health Department is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to become a member of our Outreach and Engagement Unit.

The Health Department Community Health Development Division is expanding to fulfill a new role for Senior Community Health Specialists under the direction of the Public Health Youth Ambassador Program's (PHYAP) Project Manager.

This position performs a diverse range of professional level planning, classroom facilitation, coordination of mentorship and alumni planning activities, and communication activities necessary to engage communities, and public/private sector high schools and associated student populations, and other non-profit, philanthropic and governmental organizations.

Expands capacity to implement and sustain the PHYAP; coordinates intra/interagency outreach consultations; coordinates countywide student participant engagement and recruitment; performs outreach and engagement activities; analyzes and develops comprehensive program planning materials for multiple sectors and priority health initiatives in accordance with agency and PHYAP strategic plan. Ensures equity, Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate (CLAS) standard health education, fidelity to program curriculums and public health messaging plans are developed to ensure targeted outreach is accomplished to populations within the county with greatest health disparities.

Develops, guides and communicates coordinated program team activities for classroom facilitators; mentorship and alumni program components. Establishes and cultivates strategic relationships and partnerships to support the implementation of the program's activities throughout Fairfax County. Assists in coordination and planning where countywide stakeholders are involved. Develops collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and collaborates to ensure that the community needs for Health Department support, services, participation, and information are met. Leverages county and community resources to maximize student participant participation in community-based initiatives. Collaborates with volunteer recruitment, training and retention efforts for Health Department programs including coordination, recruitment, motivation, organizing, planning and appreciation. Performs program area planning, monitoring and evaluation in collaboration with project manager.Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFCATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, human services, or a directly related field; plus four years of experience in community capacity building, public and/or community health education, or other types of health-related work involving considerable public contact.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in public health or related field of study.At least three years of experience designing, implementing, and contributing to evaluating community-based health programs in culturally and age-diverse populations.At least five years of experience with community development and capacity building activities an asset.At least five years of experience working with diverse multicultural populations.Experience with community outreach and providing health promotion, prevention, and emergency preparedness education to various ethnic communities, non-profit organizations, hard to reach populations, small businesses and/or faith communities.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals, such as community members and building partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and faith-based groups.At least two years of experience with managing, implementing, and developing comprehensive outreach programs for the public, preferably in health promotion and health access services.Ability to work independentlyAble to communicate effectively using verbal, written and electronic means.Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office Suite applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer; Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting.
