GIS Specialist (Aquaculture)

CSS is seeking to hire an Aquaculture focused GIS Specialist to work with NOAA's National Center for Coastal Ocean Science's Marine Spatial Ecology Division.The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the development of marine spatial planning research and products related to screening and siting of aquaculture in coastal and marine waters of the U.S. This will be a remote position and will require the ability to work effectively with a team of scientists from remote locations.Key duties/responsibilities include:Development of custom geoprocessing tools and data models to support high-end spatial analysis, data analytics, and visualization applications to support decision makingPerform geospatial and geostatistical analysesOrganize and input data into databases, maintain accurate detailed records of observations, measurements and resultsWrite reports and peer review journal articlesSet and meet deadlines for completion of work in timely mannerWork collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to other relevant projects as directed

Requirements:MS Degree plus 4 - 8 years of relevant experience required or BS degree plus 10 years of experience.Background in marine science is preferred and experience supporting NOAA or state agencies is highly desirable.Automation of data preparation, workflows and spatial processingProficient in the methods, practices and techniques of advanced spatial modeling, including raster and vector analysis and cartographyKnowledge of geometric networksProficient with ArcMap 10.X, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS OnlineAbility to maintain focus on routine and repetitive tasksEffective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job prioritiesAble to work in a team environmentAbility to work flexible hours, including some long days and infrequently on weekendsA valid US driver's licenseExperience with basic computer programs such as excel and wordAble to work in the US without sponsorship
