As the

IT Support and Security Analyst

at K12 Insight, you'll spend 50% of your time on Desktop Support, ensuring smooth system operations and troubleshooting issues. The other 50% of your time will be focused on cybersecurity, where you'll monitor for threats, implement security measures such as firewalls, conduct assessments, and ensure compliance.

Strong problem-solving abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and effective collaboration with colleagues are also key attributes for success in this role. This is an individual contributor position with no direct reports. This role will report to Senior IT leadership.

Desktop Support Responsibilities (50%)

- Troubleshoot and repair issues with desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other peripherals to ensure all hardware functions correctly.

- Set up and configure operating systems, applications, and necessary software updates on desktop computers to meet user needs and organizational standards.

- Source, procure, and deploy new hardware for users and the company, including desktops, laptops, monitors, and peripherals, ensuring the equipment meets performance and budgetary requirements.

- Create, modify, and manage user accounts, passwords, and access permissions, ensuring appropriate access to resources and systems.

- Respond to help desk tickets and provide on-site or remote technical assistance to users, ensuring prompt and efficient resolution of technical issues to minimize downtime.

- Maintain accurate records of support requests, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions using a ticketing system, ensuring all issues are logged, tracked, and effectively resolved.

- Conduct regular system maintenance, including disk cleanups, defragmentation, and software updates, to keep systems running smoothly and securely.

Security Responsibilities (50%)

- Monitor network traffic and systems for security breaches, anomalies, and potential threats using security tools and software.

- Implement and manage security measures, including firewalls, antivirus software, data encryption, and security measures for Microsoft Azure environments, to protect the company's data and infrastructure.

- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of security policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

- Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans to identify and address potential security weaknesses in the company's systems and applications.

- Collaborate with IT and development teams to integrate security measures into the software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring secure coding practices and application security testing.

- Install, maintain, and configure software applications and security updates to meet organizational needs and ensure systems are secure.

- Conduct security awareness training for employees to educate them on recognizing and preventing cybersecurity threats such as phishing, social engineering, and other common attack vectors.

- Ensure compliance with relevant cybersecurity frameworks and regulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or PCI-DSS, by regularly reviewing and updating security protocols and documentation.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.

- 1-3 years of experience in IT support, focusing on desktop support and/or cybersecurity.

- Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.

- Strong OS knowledge (Windows, macOS) and experience in software installation, configuration, and updates.

- Basic network security understanding, including firewalls, antivirus, and encryption.

- Familiar with managing user accounts, passwords, and access in Active Directory.

- Basic security certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP Associate) is a plus.

Location:

This role is hybrid-remote. Candidates should live within a commutable driving distance to our Herndon, Virginia headquarters. The role requires a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, with the potential to transition to a full-time in-office schedule in the future.

The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 / year with the opportunity to earn additional compensation pursuant with K12 Insight's corporate bonus plan. The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position, and is subject to change. Exact pay will be based on factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience and skills, market demands, internal parity and organizational needs.
