REPORTS TO:Supervisor of Social Work
POSITION SUMMARY:New Haven Public School Social Workers address the psychological and social well-being of students, ranging from elementary school to high school students and beyond. They provide information, counseling and support to students, parents and school staff by working collaboratively to problem solve.

Integrated intervention efforts that emphasize primary preventionEarly screening and intervention: Observations, collaboration with school staff, Parental ContactApproaches to intervention that target multiple risk factors in home, school, and community settings and involve parents, teachers, and administratorsCounseling services to IEP and regular education studentsCrisis interventionDevelopment of IEP: Goals, objectives, present levelsParticipant at PPT meetingsCollaboration with community agenciesSupport to parents/guardiansMedicaid BillingSupport to Culture and Climate as member to such school wide systems: PBIS, SSST, SPMT, Restorative Practices facilitatorApproaches that seek to improve individual and system factors contributing to academic success: Collaboration and planning with teachers and other related school staff membersClassroom Lessons: Second Step, Social Skills, Mindfulness, etc.Staff Presentations: DCF training, SEL, IDEA related topics, etc.Develops and Facilitates Social Skills Groups: self-esteem, anger management, executive functioning skills, etc.Works closely with building administrators: Leadership team member, crisis team leader, etc.Conducting Evaluation: Initials, Re-evaluations, Annuals, FBA's and BIP'sData-informed decision making and intervention fidelityHave the knowledge of and comply with local, state, and federal mandates related to informed consent, privacy and confidentiality, and access to records within the context of legal and ethical rights of minors and parents.CERTIFICATION / ENDORCEMENT REQUIREMENTS :Masters Degree in Social Work, Connecticut Certification in Social Work (071)
