THE PROJECT
The DarkStar Group's team solves unique and challenging intelligence problems for a Special Operations customer. This work is as close to the mission as a technologist can get, so the environment is fast-paced: team members face rapidly-changing requirements and priorities as mission needs evolve. We are a multi-faceted software development and systems administration team working to build and maintain software applications backed by a self-managed cloud infrastructure (OpenStack) with a true big-data footprint (over 10 petabytes). Our diverse background of experience in mission support and software development serves as a catalyst to solve unique and challenging intelligence problems in support of special operations analysts and their on-going activities. Prototyping and frequent, iterative feedback are core to our delivery approach, anchored by a need to work quickly in support of our missions.
The technical stack is quite robust and includes Java, Python, C#, C/C++, Geospatial tools, Big Data and Graph Products (Hadoop, MapReduce, Spark, ElasticSearch, Neo4j), Linux, OpenStack, AWS, Ansible, SQL/NoSQL, Text Processing, Cloud Services, Containerization, Infrastructure as Code (IAC), and more.
Work on this program takes place in the Herndon, VA area (we cannot support remote work) and requires a TS clearance and a willingness to obtain a CI Poly: a current TS/SCI + CI Poly is preferred.
THE ROLE
The DarkStar Group is seeking an independent, creative, and driven Software Developer/ Data Scientist to join our team at a Northern VA government customer site. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, and is an expert in computer vision models and other data-driven solutions. Our customers have some of the most interesting needs and hardest challenges to resolve. Our solutions require integrated models based on large and varied datasets, feeding analytic applications so that we can extract patterns and behaviors obscured within the data to augment the capabilities of human operators. We need experienced Software Developers/Data Scientists to work on all stages of the data science pipeline, to include applying existing machine learning software across large hyper-parameter trade spaces, developing new machine learning algorithms and evaluating the best the commercial AI/ML industry has to offer to our problem set.
Responsibilities
Extracting and transforming data using programming languages such as Python and associated open-source data analytics librariesAscertaining unique ways to apply algorithms to derive specific customer data analytic resultsApplying big data analytics tools to large, diverse sets of collection data to assess risk of adverse threat activitiesExtending existing algorithms as required to support customer requirementsApplying data science methods to create and optimize convolutional neural networks that will perform classification, localization and segmentation of various modalities of remotely-sensed imageryContribute to the development of data analytics, user workflows and interfaces, security authentication, and service call architecture comprising a family of applications in our software suiteCreate rapid prototypes and design and implement complex, cutting-edge systems with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing, and visualizing large sets of CV data to extract meaningful knowledgeWork with emerging technologies and data science techniques in support of endeavors to address the critical needs of the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and other government agencies.Required Skills
