Soliant Education is seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in the Hampton, VA area! This full-time, in-person position for the 2024-2025 school year offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students by bridging the communication gap and ensuring their full access to academic and social experiences at school. What You'll Do: Provide high-quality sign language interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing students across various grade levels in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms, meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular activities. Foster clear and accurate communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students, teachers, administrators, peers, and other school staff. Maintain confidentiality of all interpreted information. Collaborate with teachers and specialists to develop and implement effective communication strategies and accommodations to support the academic and social success of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Advocate for the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students within the school community and promote an inclusive learning environment. Stay current with best practices in sign language interpreting in educational settings and maintain professional certifications. Multiple One-on-One Caseloads Available: Soliant Education recognizes the importance of building strong relationships between interpreters and students. This position offers the opportunity to work with deaf and hard-of-hearing students in multiple one-on-one caseloads across various grade levels (details will be provided during the interview process). We will take your preferences into consideration to ensure the best possible fit for both you and the schools we support. Making a Difference Through Communication: This position allows you to play a vital role in ensuring equal access to education for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. You will be a bridge between cultures and communication styles, empowering students to thrive in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Qualifications: National Registry of Certified Interpreters (RID) certification or eligibility for certification. Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting, preferably with students across various grade levels, is highly preferred. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong understanding of Deaf culture. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and other school staff. Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and adapt interpreting styles to different educational contexts. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism in interpreting assignments.
