Starting Pay Range: $23.25 - $25.67per hour - Depending On Experience *Type of Recruitment: Internal/External *

High School Diploma or GEDTwelve months' experience in a position requiring interaction and/or service to the public or an equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge of the fundamentals of human nature and behavior and the written and oral English languageGeneral knowledge of basic computer programs to include spreadsheet applications and word processing programs

**Summary: This position is located at the Ward County Jail. Duties at this level are performed independently with less supervision and incumbents are considered fully functioning correction officers. This job description is not a contract and is subject to change. A Correctional Officer shall perform duties associated with security, care, custody and control of inmates in the correctional facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide for overall security and maintain order and discipline.Supervise inmates in daily activities.Conduct searches and daily head counts.Perform irregular checks of inmate housing, recreational, work areas, and facility perimeter.Provide for the safety and well-being of inmates and ensure proper health maintenance and hygiene.Observe conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes; report observations to Shift Supervisor.Process admissions of all inmates entering the facility.Conducts searches of all articles, inmate property, and mail entering or leaving the facility, using specialized equipment as neededManage specialized restraint equipmentConduct inmate transfers and discharges to include dispersing money, medications, identifications, and necessary documentsCommunicate with outside agencies/entities to provide services to the facility and for the inmatesAssist in the training, development, and supervision of new trainee'sEnsure inmate compliance with regulations, memorandums, policies, and proceduresPerform on call duties as requiredInteract with inmates, including crisis interventionDocument daily activities in appropriate logsPerform checks/patrols of facility perimeter, inmate housing, recreational, and work areasConduct irregular room checks on inmates and attend to requests, complaints, and immediate future needs
