Duration: Approximately 6 months – Expected end date in late March to early AprilShift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PMShift Requirements: No weekends, no on-call, no floating. The department is closed for the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.Required Certifications: Certified ASCPExperience: 2+ years of experience as a Pathology Assistant required. Graduation from an NAACLS-approved Pathology Assistant training program is preferred.

Job Summary:The Pathology Assistant will assist pathologists in the examination, dissection, and processing of tissues, as well as in gross autopsy dissection, under the direction of a board-certified, licensed pathologist.

Essential Functions:

Ensure proper specimen accessioning and gather clinical history, including scans, x-rays, and lab data.Describe gross anatomic features, dissect surgical specimens, and prepare tissues for histologic processing.Obtain biological specimens such as blood, tissue, and toxicological materials for studies (e.g., flow cytometry, image analysis, immunohistochemistry).Participate in gross and microscopic specimen photography.Perform administrative duties related to the maintenance of surgical pathology protocols, reports, and data.Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, adequate supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology suite.Prepare human post mortem examinations, including coordinating with the attending pathologist and notifying relevant personnel.Conduct post mortem examinations, including external examination, in-situ organ inspection, evisceration, and dissection.Select, prepare, and submit appropriate gross tissues for histologic sections and special studies.Prepare the body for release.Interview Process: Virtual interviews with cameras on.
