Idaho Power — headquartered in Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Purchasing Agent to join our Supply Chain team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon. Our focus is on safely providing reliable, affordable, and clean energy to those who depend on us.
This position is focused on providing purchasing support for projects throughout the company. The role is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location and offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote.
What does a Purchasing Agent do for us?
The Purchasing Agent is a part of Idaho Power’s Supply Chain Procurement Department. The Agent:
Proactively coordinates with stakeholders in the development of internal customer purchase requirements of moderate risk and/or complexity.
Develops and executes deal making strategies.
Solicits quotes, leads the competitive bidding process, negotiates and issues purchase orders.
Meets business unit cost objectives with focus on best value to Idaho Power.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
Current purchasing practices, terms and conditions, negotiation strategies, competitive bid process and supplier management practices
ERP systems
Business acumen
Preferred:
Commodity-specific experience in the power utility industry and/or construction
Skills in:
Strong customer service
Time management, decision making, presentation, negotiation, critical thinking, and organizational, and problem-solving skills
Focusing on quality and strong attention to detail
Being results-oriented with strong analytical skills
Managing and coordinating multiple projects, including competing mandates
MS Office programs, and other procurement tools and software
Ability to:
Manage and/or work on project teams or independently
Communicate effectively (verbal and written) and easily interact with a variety of audiences (including engineers, project managers, and management)
Establish effective working relationships with a variety of audiences
Work well in a team environment
Provide strong customer support
Facilitate interpersonal and group tasks
Apply time management techniques and be flexible to changing priorities to ensure proper completion of tasks
Gather information, identify trends, and apply findings to assignments, develop alternatives
Work in a fast paced, dynamic environment and maintain composure while dealing effectively with a diverse customer base and constructively work under stress and pressure when faced with high workloads and aggressive deadlines
May be required to work extended hours in the event of large emergencies, i.e., fires, outages, etc.
Embrace change and accept challenge, ask difficult questions and solve problems
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's degree
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain or related field
Experience:
3 or more years related work experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
