What you will do

Analyzing the company’s Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) daily dispatch decisions, including evaluating plant performance, demand forecasts , and market imbalances, and communicating findings to management.

Conduct analysis on regulatory impacts, and supply-demand and research business process changes to formulate recommendations.

Participate in working groups to assist in developing Day-Ahead Market protocols, monitor energy policy, and provide analytical feedback.

What you bring

Bachelors of Science degree in engineering, economics, business administration or comparable quantitative field.

Two years of experience in wholesale power marketing or relevant utility industry experience.

Strong data analysis, benchmarking, monitoring, and business/financial analysis skills required.

Position Description

Member of the Wholesale Power Marketing team that supports the Energy Imbalance Market, Emerging Markets, and Wholesale Activities: where you will leverage analytic skills to drive operational excellence and market efficiency

This position involves analyzing the Company’s Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) daily dispatch decisions, including evaluating plant performance, demand forecasts, and market imbalances, and communicating findings to management. Responsibilities include analyzing sub-hourly data for CAISO’s EIM settlement resolution process.

The role also entails monitoring wholesale power market trends, assessing their impact on EIM performance, and utilizing insights to adjust strategic bidding plans. The individual will contribute to Emerging Energy Markets, track policy changes, and assess their impact on TEP. They will also participate in working groups to assist in developing Day-Ahead Market protocols, monitor energy policy, and provide analytical feedback.

Additionally, the position requires representing TEP on safety rules, contractual commitments, and utility practices while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and conduct.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Collects, analyzes and interprets market and operational data to create reports, prepare presentations, and wholesale power market commentaries.

Performs forecast to actual variance analysis and reports results to EIM personnel.

Develop load and renewable generation forecasts for TEP, UNS Electric, and UNS Gas. Generate load & renewable generation projections on a monthly, daily and hourly basis

Maintains and updates generation values, pricing and corporate data required in the planning and forecasting process. Perform variance analysis to validate forecast and explain deviations to management.

Monitors and analyzes market performance, market participant behavior and compliance with market rules.

Performs power market modelling, interpreting results and summarizing trends and strategic implications.

Develops, implements and reviews operational processes and procedures to meet the needs for business area compliance with Western EIM standards, requirements and agreements.

Identifies process and procedure improvements to strengthen market participation and efficiency.

Develops methods, reports and automates analysis where appropriate to streamline the tracking of important indices and metrics.

Assists department in development and implementation of training procedures for changes in EIM duties to increase the knowledge and effectiveness of Wholesale Marketing personnel.

Forecasts load and develop plan to fulfill load requirements using available TEP/UNSE and market generating resources.

Study and interpret data, reports, maps, photographs, and charts to predict long- and short-range weather conditions.

Compile, process and generate monthly, daily and hourly renewable generation forecast projections.

Perform forecast/actual variance analysis reports.

Maintains an active role in EIM activities, boards, committees, and groups, including the Regional Issues Forum and other stakeholder meetings.

Stays up-to-date on WECC, NERC and FERC compliance requirements.

Supports department during internal and external audits.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management.

Participates in various Market working group & asses the impacts for wholesale.

Conducts Analysis on regulatory impacts and supply-demand dynamics.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate market insights into strategic planning.

All responsibilities of Analyst Senior apply plus the following:

Leads the market analysis team and coordinates efforts across departments.

Plans multiple project assignments and coordinates priorities with team leads and clients. Works as business lead on large projects under the leadership of the Management Team.

Leads wholesale’s interest in Market/Policy changes as a subject matter expert.

Provides both analytical/technical leadership, training, and guidance to less experienced members and exhibit leadership qualities to the department and corporation.

Represents the company in high-level industry forums and conferences.

Drives innovation in market analyst practices and tools.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Analyst – Minimum Qualifications

·

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, economics, business administration or comparable quantitative field.

·

Two years of experience in wholesale power marketing or relevant utility industry experience.

·

Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills.

·

Ability to multitask effectively and to work in an environment with ambiguity.

·

Must have knowledge of wind & solar renewable generation.

·

Ability to comprehend and analyze meteorological data.

·

Strong data analysis, benchmarking, monitoring and business/financial analysis skills required.

·

Must have knowledge of utility scale generation and transmission systems.

·

Must have an advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

·

Prior experience with the Western EIM, CASIO Market or other wholesale power markets preferred.

·

Knowledge of varied analytical methods preferred.

·

Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and ability to identify solutions.

·

Ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets.

·

Strong communication and writing skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex technical materials and concepts.

Ability to provide practical and feasible solutions to problems while taking multiple conflicting considerations into
