The Judicial Council of California is the policymaking and administrative body for California courts. With over 40 million residents, California is home to the largest court system in the nation.As a government body charged with improving the statewide administration of justice, the Judicial Council has multiple offices with diverse responsibilities relating to court policy and operations. As employees of the council, every member of staff should view and approach their work as one Judicial Council with a public service mission that is greater than the sum of its parts.Within the Judicial Council, the Office of Court Research supports the Council’s mission of increasing access to justice with data, research, and analysis to support data-driven decision-making in the Judicial Branch. The Research and Evaluation Unit and the Statistics and Evaluation Unit comprise the Office of Court Research with a team of about 20 FTE based in San Francisco.Position Overview
The Supervising Analyst in the Statistics and Information Unit has lead policy-making and administrative responsibility and management of the Judicial Branch Statistical Information System (JBSIS), which is authorized by California Rules of Court, rule 10.400 and is the management information system for statewide trial court operational data. This position also has lead responsibility for publishing the Court Statistics Report — the official, annual report from the Judicial Council to the Legislature and Governor in support of article VI, section 6 of the California Constitution, which requires the Judicial Council to survey the business of the California courts.This position works with limited supervision, carrying out complex and high-level functions under the general direction of branch leadership regarding the collection and reporting of statistical and operational data, which includes data used in the statewide budget development process, workload models, court performance standards and measures, and research and evaluation of court programs and services. This position supervises exempt positions in the Statistics and Information Unit and performs general management duties, including setting and achieving unit priorities and determining resource needs.Work Environment
The Judicial Council strives for work-life balance, including substantial vacation and holiday time. The office is only a 7-minute walk from the Civic Center BART station in downtown San Francisco.The successful candidate will be expected to work in person at the Judicial Council’s San Francisco office and reside in the areas surrounding this location. The Judicial Council offers hybrid work arrangements for many positions. Beginning in September 2024, employees will work in the office at least one day each week. Beginning in January 2025, employees will work in the office at least two days per week.
