The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.

Today, the CSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Licensed Eligible Crisis Counselor (Emergency Services Counselor I)

who will assess individuals experiencing a crisis to provide or link them and their significant others with mental health services in the least restrictive environment, diverting them from state hospital care to community-based care. Responds by phone and/or in-person to requests for assistance with behavioral health (mental health and/or addiction) crisis concerns, including co-occurring health, developmental, and/or social vulnerabilities, or crisis states. Works in teams and serves children and adults.

Department Hiring Salary Range: $54,601 - $62,791Essential functions include but are not limited to:Evaluates crisis telephone calls and determines the type of response needed including crisis intervention, phone counseling, information, follow-up, pre-admission screening, and/or referral.Provides phone counseling in the office and face-to-face crisis counseling in the office and in the community (e.g. hospital emergency rooms, agency offices, residences).Completes pre-admission screening evaluations and facilitates obtaining Temporary Detention Orders in accordance with mental health services policies.Provides expert testimony to the Norfolk Courts for assigned commitment cases regarding the client's history, behavior and least restrictive treatment alternative.Initiates, completes, and maintains program records and documentation in accordance with policies and procedures.Provides consultation and clinical supervision to clinical staff as assigned both informally through role modeling and formally through structured supervision.Identifies staff training needs and recommends strategies to meet those needs.Assists in the development and implementation of special projects, policy development or revision.Performs other NCSB-related duties as assigned.Minimum qualifications include:Master's or Doctoral Degree with an associated professional license or educational attainment that would be required to achieve the following in the future:Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP)Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, MD/DO, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Registered Nurse (BSN) with five years' experience.Two years supervised experience in directly providing mental health services.Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP) preferred.Certified Preadmission Screening Clinicians preferred.Certified or certifiable in Basic Life Support and first aid training.Working Hours:
