The Industry Contracts Manager uses advanced legal and intellectual property experience and knowledge to resolve highly complex issues with organization-wide impact.Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.Considered a subject matter expert in the organization and often recognized as an expert externally in the intellectual property / technology transfer industry.Provides direction to departmental staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff.Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly.Provides priority setting and workflow analysis.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.The salary range for this position is $124,400 - $124,400 (Annual Rate).Department Description

The Industry Contracts Division is responsible for drafting, negotiating, and signing all industry sponsored research agreements between UCSF and industry sponsors. These contracts include clinical trial agreements, clinical service agreements, inbound software licensing agreements, material transfer agreements (incoming materials of all types and outgoing clinical specimen or data), equipment loan agreements, sponsored research agreements, strategic alliance agreements, collaboration agreements (including beta testing agreements), fellowships, and confidentiality agreements.Required Qualifications

BA/BS degree with a major in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.Five (5) or more years of work experience in administrative analysis, operations research, or experience in drafting and negotiating research contracts and/or intellectual property agreements or related work experience.State-of-the-art knowledge in subject area and broad application of government, business and legal principles, theories and concepts such as laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to the protection and management of intellectual property, industry-university research collaborations, and technical skills in area of expertise.Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a cross-functional team, as well as in varied environments and with a diversity of personalities.Demonstrated ability to understand the varying objectives and needs of faculty, the university, and industry sponsors, and to apply and implement creative solutions to complex problems that mitigate risks and respect the policies and needs of each party in a negotiation.Recognized expert in drafting and negotiating contracts and grants containing complex intellectual property terms.Ability to direct work of professional staff.Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills.(1) Ability to prioritize; (2) the ability to be flexible; (3) ability to work independently and still be a team player; (4) ability to work with various personalities; and (5) ability to provide quality customer service.Demonstrated professional experience, business acumen, judgment and integrity to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting, representing and advancing the University's best interests.Demonstrated ability to apply and implement creative solutions to complex problems that respect the policies and needs of each party.Ability to analyze complex technical data using logic and quantitative reasoning.Prior professional experience, demonstrating business acumen, judgment and integrity to effectively train and supervise professional staff.Preferred Qualifications

MBA, JD, or PhD in a related scientific field.Current working knowledge of pharma and biotech market trends.Demonstrated knowledge of the legal distinctions between gifts, contracts, and grants and the ability to explain these distinctions to faculty, staff, and industry sponsors.Prior experience training, mentoring and/or supervising staff.Experience with research administration or contract negotiation/management.Prior bench research experience.Prior experience working in negotiating intellectual property related agreements at a major university or similar large, complex organization.About UCSF
