The Job

WarnerMedia seeks a VP & Sr. Litigation Counsel for the Corporate Legal department. This VP manages and supervises outside counsel in their handling of WarnerMedia litigation; investigates and attempts to resolve pre-litigation claims against the Company; represents the Company in judicial proceedings such as arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, depositions, and hearings; negotiates, reviews, drafts, revises, and/or analyzes contracts and agreements; researches and responds to legal inquiries; supervises paralegal and clerical subordinates in the performance of their tasks. Performs special assignments and related work.

The Daily

Supervises outside counsel in their handling of Warner Media litigation and attempts to settle and resolve pre-litigation claims against the Company in the areas of copyright law, breach of contract and other commercial transactions, employment, right of publicity, and defamation cases, profit participations, personal injury, etc.

Negotiates, researches, drafts, revises, and/or analyzes agreements, contracts, memoranda, legal correspondence, and other legal documents.

Represents the Company in judicial proceedings such as depositions, settlement conferences, arbitrations, mediations, and judicial hearings.

Researches and answers inquiries regarding contracts, privacy rights, copyright laws, litigation-related issues, and other legal matters.

Provides legal guidance and counseling to the Company’s businesses on risk mitigation strategies, contract interpretation and provisions, dispute resolution, and other legal issues.

Supervises Litigation Administration Managers and Paralegals in the performance of legal-related tasks.

Other Special Projects as directed by Senior Company Litigators.

The Essentials

A minimum of 10 years experience practicing law in the area of business contracts. Plus, at least 7 years experience in private practice with a highly regarded firm in litigation, preferably relating to the entertainment industry – IP, film and television production and distribution, licensing, etc.

BA or BS required.

JD required.

Member of the California State Bar required.

Knowledge of the entertainment industry required.

Familiarity with some or all of the following subject areas is helpful: general business litigation, especially entertainment industry-related; copyright, trademark, and patent; profit participant accounting; first amendment (including libel, defamation, and right of publicity); personal injury; insurance defense.

Ability to negotiate, draft, and interpret agreements, contracts, and other legal documents.

Ability to research legal questions.

Ability to supervise and evaluate paralegal and clerical subordinates engaged in the performance of legal-related tasks.

Superior judgment, integrity, and interpersonal skills a must.

Ability to use common word-processing programs.

Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully with clients and third parties.

Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects.

Ability to function well under pressure and to prioritize and reprioritize frequently.

Ability to meet a schedule or deadline set by someone else.

Attention to detail.

Must have excellent organizational skills.

Must be able to delegate work to non-lawyers and edit their draft Statements of Work, project descriptions, correspondence, etc.
